DHASG October 2018 Challenge
Introduction: October has arrived. Time for fall jackets and leaf raking. Pull out the hot cocoa. And if you like, enjoy the spooky possibilities for the month. Let's all enjoy our October reading!
Rules:
1, Any DHASG member can participate.
2. Sign up at any time during the month, but books must be read between 1 October and 31 October, 2018. Post when you sign up and update your progress regularly and when you finish.
3. Rereads are fine. Reads can overlap with other challenges on the group, but a book can only count once in this challenge.
3. In your stats, write your level, include book name, author, date read, and how it fits the particular challenge point.
4.Have fun!
Levels:
1. House Haunting: Read 9-12 books.
2. Pumpkin Carving: Read 5-8 books.
3. Trick or Treat: Read 3-4 books.
Categories:
1. Make a Difference Day!: The 4th Sunday in October is a day set aside to volunteer in your community and to help out others in any way you can. Read a book with a lead character who has a volunteer spirit who helps others out as a lifestyle.
2.Sarcasm For the Win! October is Sarcasm Month. Read a book with a sarcastic tone or mood or with a character who impresses you with their high level sarcasm skills.
3.Pet Peeve Week: Week 2 of October is Pet Peeve Week. Count a book you read this month that touches on one of your pet peeves, or has a character who encounters a huge pet peeve in the book and has to deal with it. Or the title could describe some sort of pet peeve that people might have.
4.National Boyfriend Day: October 3rd is the day to celebrate boyfriends. Read a book where the character does exactly that, or with a hero who is a stellar boyfriend to another prominent character. It is okay if the boyfriend becomes a husband in the book so long as he is a boyfriend at some point in the book.
5. High Five a Techie!: October 3rd is also Techie's Day. Celebrate those folks that know how to fix your stuff when it's broken. Read a book with a tech-handy lead or at least a prominent, recurring character.
6.Teacher, Teacher, Can You Teach Me?: October 5th is World Teacher's Day. Celebrate teachers through your reading. You can read a book where a lead character is a teacher or is inspired deeply by their teacher, or a book that reminds you of a teacher who touched you in your life journey.
7.Being Frugal Can Be Fun: Frugal Fun Day is the 1st Sunday in October. Read a book that celebrates enjoying the free or cheap things in life. You could read a book you got for free for this challenge as an alternative.
8.Mad Hatter Day: October 6th is a holiday conceived in honor of the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. You can read a book that includes a character who is known for their penchant for wearing hats, or a being quirky, weird or off, or you could just read a book that is quirky, weird, silly or odd for this day. You can even read Alice in Wonderland or a story that is inspired by it, and includes a Mad Hatter character.
9.Embrace the Bald!: October 7th is Bald and Free Day. Celebrate the bald by reading a book with a lead or prominent character who is bald.
10.Curiosity Can Be Satisfying: October 9th is Curious Event Day. Read a book that celebrates or represents curiosity. The lead character could embrace curiosity as a state of being or be in a profession where curiosity pays off.
11.Party Animal: October 11th is It's My Party Day. Read a book where the lead character throws a party or is a party-planner for a living.
12.Bobbing for Apples: Go bob for the apple of your choice, one of these holidays to complete your October challenge: A Moment of Frustration Day, International Skeptics Day, Bosses Day, Dictionary Day, Evaluate Your Day Day, Babbling Day.
Bonus Unlucky 13: Spooky or Scary Read--Read a book that is horrific, scary, or spooky. Tell us how scary it was out of 1 to 10 (least to most).
