Sara You know how sometimes you have two books that are perfect for a prompt and you have to choose only one? Well, here's your chance to fit that other great book in.

Here's a link to the prompt from this year - which also includes link to the previous years: /topic/show/...

What are some of you favorite prompts from previous years?

message 2: by Katy (new)

Katy M | 946 comments My favorite one from last year (the only year I have done the challenge thus far) was the childhood classic you've never read. There are bunch, so I think I'll go that route again. Choices I have would be Charlie and the Chocolate FActory, The Secret Garden, Stuart Little. I'm sure there are others.

message 3: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 190 comments Looking through the past prompts, I think I'm going to choose a book set somewhere you always wanted to visit. And now I'm going to have to find a book! But that should be easy, so many places I want to visit!

message 4: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Spain (maitribb) | 22 comments I loved the “author with a different ethnicity than you prompt and the book that I read for it, The a Pearl That Broke Its Shell by Nadia Hasimi, so I’m going to read another book by her, When The Moon Is Low

message 5: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Starflight | 972 comments I have a lot of favorite prompts from previous years, including "book originally published in a different language," "book mentioned in another book," "book with song lyrics in the title," etc. Decisions, decisions...

message 6: by Linda (new)

Linda Varick-cooper | 20 comments I will end up using this category to fit in books that I want to read but don't work with this year's list. Any book can always go somewhere and it can be fun to make it work. I also plan to do one from EACH of the previous years.

message 7: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments Same here, Linda.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments I think I'll take 'childhood classic you've never read' again, and read The Trumpet of the Swan, since I have it sitting on the shelf.

message 9: by Charlsa (new)

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 195 comments I'll probably use the childhood classic you never read and read Mary Poppins. I just bought a nice book set of that series, and I'm chomping at the bit to read it.

message 10: by Mo (new)

Mo Smith (moreadsbooks) | 25 comments I'm using "an audiobook"... again. I listen to audiobooks while I commute, so this is pretty easy for me.

message 11: by Tracy (last edited Nov 13, 2018 07:43AM) (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 608 comments I looked at each of the previous lists and picked one to give myself options:
2015: ( A book with magic)
Practical Magic/ Down Among the Sticks and Bones
2016: (a Graphic Novel)
Ghosts
2017: (First book in a series)
Scythe
2018: ( winner from GR Choice Awards)
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay

message 12: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 210 comments Are you all doing one year/one book for this prompt or 4?

The Chapter Conundrum (Stacey) | 404 comments Kerry wrote: "Are you all doing one year/one book for this prompt or 4?"

I'm planning 4, but I'd say either way you do it is totally acceptable!
My plan is:

40a) 2015: (26) A Memoir My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward by Mark Lukach
40b) 2016: (3) A YA Bestseller If I Stay (#1) by Gayle Forman
40c) 2017: (A9) A Book you got from a used book sale The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing by Melissa Bank
40d) 2018: (3) The Next Book in a series you started A Court of Wings and Ruin (#3) by Sarah J. Maas

Thank you. I will try to do 4 also. I like the prompt from a used book sale.

message 15: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 608 comments I LOVE how many people are choosing the childhood classic :-)

It makes me so happy.

message 16: by Brittany (last edited Nov 13, 2018 03:23AM) (new)

Brittany Morrison | 145 comments I'm going to use the local author prompt from 2018 so I can either read Cherry by Nico Walker or Paper Girls, Vol. 5 by Brian K. Vaughan when it comes out. This prompt opened up my eyes to who many wonderful authors there are from Cleveland.

I read The Secret Garden for the first time when I was at university and I absolutely loved it, it was heart-warming. I definitely recommend you read it :)

message 18: by Lindi (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) I never know if I should choose the prompt I was most excited about in the beginning, or the prompt that was my favorite by the end.

message 19: by Serendipity (new)

Serendipity | 146 comments I recently stumbled across The Book Jumper and fell in love with its cover. So I'll use it for this category picking 'a book based entirely on its cover from the 2015 challenge.

This Kooky Wildflower Loves a Little Tea and Books (alittleteaandbooks) | 26 comments I'm using "A Book Bought on a Trip" as I tend to visit bookstores whenever I'm traveling.

message 21: by Lindi (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) I'm going to make it easier on myself and go with the prompt I was most excited for this year - A book about time travel. I've got Time and Time Again at home so I think I'll go with that.

message 22: by Rhoda (new)

Rhoda | 30 comments Mo wrote: "I'm using "an audiobook"... again. I listen to audiobooks while I commute, so this is pretty easy for me."
THANK YOU!! I also listen to audiobooks all the time on my way to work, I'm so glad that you reminded me about this prompt.

message 23: by A (new)

✨ A ✨ (az_youread) I'm also going to do a book for each of the previous years. and because there are so many series that I plan to read next year this gives me the opportunity to fit as many as I can into this challenge.
2015: A trilogy
2016: a book and it's prequel
2017: the first book on a series you haven't read
2018: the next book in a series you started

message 24: by Jai (new)

Jai | 202 comments I'm going to use the 2017 challenge. There's so many prompts that interest me!

Chinook | 731 comments Azrah wrote: "I'm also going to do a book for each of the previous years. and because there are so many series that I plan to read next year this gives me the opportunity to fit as many as I can into this challe..."

I like this idea a lot. I’m always so slow to get through a series lately because of challenge reads taking precedence to binge reading a series. And I read fast enough that I could fit in multiple books for this category.

message 26: by redatt (new)

redatt (mini_sagas) | 52 comments If I go with the 2015 'a play' prompt, I can finally get Harry Potter and the Cursed Child off my TBR pile. Haven't read a play in AGES.

message 27: by Megan (new)

Megan | 361 comments I'm going to do 'a book you saw someone reading' as it gives me a chance to use The Food Explorer: The True Adventures of the Globe-Trotting Botanist Who Transformed What America Eats

message 28: by Rachelnyc (new)

Rachelnyc | 186 comments I was originally thinking that this was basically a wild card choice but decided to use the 2018 prompt of a a book set in a country that fascinates me since I am also doing an Around the World challenge.

Not sure what book I'll choose yet.

message 29: by SadieReadsAgain (last edited Nov 30, 2018 02:53PM) (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments Think I'm going to shoot for 4 here...though with the option to back out of that if it's too ambitious!

2018 - set in a country that fascinates you - The Widows of Malabar Hill
2017 - book about an interesting woman - Wide Sargasso Sea
2016 - book 100 years older than you - Strange Case of Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde
2015 - Pulitzer Prize winner - All the Light We Cannot See

I'm in the UK, so can't access the 2015 list on PS. If you're struggling too, you can find the lists from this group:
2015 - /topic/show/...
2016 - /topic/show/...
2017 - /topic/show/...
2018 -/topic/show/...

message 30: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 643 comments I'm on the fence about whether to do one book, or 4. This year, we had the prompt already for a favourite prompt from the 2015, 2016 or 2017 PopSugar challenges, and I already split that one into three books. So on the one hand, I've already done the previous years and it might make sense to keep it to just 2018 to avoid repeating, but on the other, I wouldn't mind adding the rest if I had other favourite prompts that I want to repeat.

message 31: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (shadow2451) | 23 comments Does anyone know offhand of a past prompt for a biography or maybe a book about a veteran? I'm trying to find a fit for The Good Neighbor.

Rachelnyc | 186 comments Sarah wrote: "Does anyone know offhand of a past prompt for a biography or maybe a book about a veteran? I'm trying to find a fit for The Good Neighbor."

You could use this year's prompt of a Goodread's Choice Award winner since it just won in the history & biography category.

Lindi (lindimarie) Sarah wrote: "Does anyone know offhand of a past prompt for a biography or maybe a book about a veteran? I'm trying to find a fit for The Good Neighbor."

There was also "A nonfiction book" back in 2015.

message 34: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (shadow2451) | 23 comments Good idea about the award winner category

message 35: by Erin (new)

Erin (maclanoodle) | 30 comments I'm going to do the "book made into a movie you've already seen" and read Catch Me If You Can: The True Story of a Real Fake!

I posted a full list all in one place, since this topic seems to keep coming back!

All Past Popsugar Challenge Categories

message 37: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 21 comments I had The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories recommended to me, so I'm going to go with the prompt 'A book of short stories'.

message 38: by Ann (last edited Dec 25, 2018 11:03AM) (new)

Ann Contella (ahnsolo) | 35 comments Hotel Angeline: A Novel in 36 Voices works for the 2017 prompt for 'A book set in a hotel,' and also works for 2019's 'A book told in multiple POVs.'

message 39: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 111 comments So I picked a prompt from 2016 of “a book with a protagonist who has the same occupation you do because I’ve never read a book that fit that. The book I originally planned for that was Run, Don't Walk: The Curious and Chaotic Life of a Physical Therapist Inside Walter Reed Army Medical Centerbut as I look further into it, it appears to be nonfiction stories from her work not a fixtionalized story. I’m wondering if she can be considered a protagonist? The book will fit for other prompts- probably the one with odd chapters since her chapters aren’t numbered they are the names of wards or floors at Walter Reed but I was wondering what your thoughts were on the original prompt? Thanks.

message 40: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 5 comments I'm going with "A book you own but have never read". lol. I feel like that's cheating because it will be SO easy to find multiple books that fit this category -- thrift stores, library book sales, Little Free Libraries, free books for my Kindle.... the possibilities are endless.

message 41: by Darci (new)

Darci Day | 164 comments I'm going with last year's 'a book about time travel' and reading Just One Damned Thing After Another.

message 42: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 30 comments Since I listen to a lot of audiobooks on my commute, the audiobook prompt has to be my favourite one!

I just finished listening to Fools and Mortals tpday. I rather enjoyed it, but did find it a bit repetitive. This is my first experience with a Cornwell book and now I'm not entirely sure I'd like to read/listen to another.

message 43: by Courtney (new)

Courtney Blocher | 64 comments I'm doing three so my total for the challenge is 52.

1. A book with a female author who uses a male pseudonym (2018):Obsession in Death by J.D. Robb
2. Next book in a series you started (2018): Bay of Sighs by Nora Roberts
3. A book set in the future (2015): Festive in Death by J.D. Robb

message 44: by Tori (new)

Tori (libroperdido) | 41 comments I choose this 2018 prompt more for the fact that it fit well with a book I finished last week: a book about or set on Halloween: "Hocus Pocus & the All New Sequel."

message 45: by Kendyle (new)

Kendyle | 5 comments I chose a 2017 prompt, a book about travel. I read A Maverick Cuban Way A Maverick Cuban Way.

message 46: by Alix (new)

Alix (alixbrand) | 57 comments I'm going to use the prompt from 2016 "A New york times bestseller" to get Where the Crawdads Sing done!

message 47: by Alexis (new)

Alexis Hoover (lehhxxis) I am going to do the lgbt prompt from 2018 (forgot exactly what it says, but something about a lgbt protagonist), and for that, I am reading Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. Currently reading now :)

I'm using this for "Book that makes you nostalgic."

message 49: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 0 comments I have just read Humans: A Brief History of How We F**ked It All Up by Tom Phillips for book club, and this is the only prompt I could fit it into - I used last year's #49 - about a problem facing society today

I think you can count anything you want in order to fulfill your own goals. Sometimes it's really difficult to find a fiction book with someone sharing your profession, so substituting one written by someone in your field is perfectly fine.
