This has been on my TBR list for awhile. I'd love to do a buddy read. =)

evofox (brycereads) | 43 comments when would work best for you to start the buddy read? don't mind when so thought i would ask

Hillary Major | 436 comments For those reading on in Daniel Abraham's Long Price Quartet after the group read, shall I star a Betrayal in Winter thread? Or a rest-of-the-Quartet thread?

Well, I have the omnibus so that means I'll be reading it at some point :) I already have a big pile for April and May but I suppose I could jiggle some stuff around.

April or May is fine. I’m mostly trying to read the books that have been on my TBR list the longest. So it doesn’t matter to me either.

evofox (brycereads) | 43 comments does april the 3rd work? have another book on go which i want to finish first but should be finished by the end of this month early next at latest.

message 58: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Brick (lbrick363) | 29 comments That’s perfect! Gives me a chance to finish the 2 I am reading now.

So, are we going to do this?

evofox (brycereads) | 43 comments anyone interested in doing The Priory of the Orange Tree as a buddy read next month?

message 62: by Andrea (last edited Mar 14, 2020 08:21AM) (new)

Andrea | 3449 comments Been a while since we've had a buddy read so thought I'd throw out here a few things I plan to read in the near future

These four are series continuation of group reads we've had over the years:

The Drawing of the Three by Stephen King
Heir of Sea and Fire by Patricia A. McKillip
An Autumn War by Daniel Abraham
Miles, Mystery, and Mayhem by Lois McMaster Bujold (or just Cetaganda)

And while I was in the library I noticed they had the rest of The Giver series so Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry

I'm definitely reading The Drawing of the Three next so will be starting that maybe tomorrow or Monday so kind of short notice :)

I might be interested in joining your reading of Eye of the World. Did you have a time scale in mind for completing it?

Ian, that buddy read & discussion began in October: here.

message 65: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 3449 comments Although given the length of that series, even something started in October would likely be ongoing :)

Could have been, but Bryan chose not to continue with the series buddy reads. (I was a little disappointed; I thought it might be an excuse to re-read the whole series :)

I read An Autumn War (and the final volume, The Price of Spring) last year; if you manage to organize a discussion I'll skim it to refresh my memory & drop a few comments in.

message 68: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 3449 comments Doesn't seem like I'll be organizing a discussion, but I used your post as motivation to pick An Autumn War next, and I'll post my thoughts on the existing buddy read thread, maybe others will add a comment or two too.

message 69: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 1 comments Would anyone like to read Dune (Dune, #1) by Frank Herbert with me =}

??

message 70: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 3449 comments Tempting, since I do want to read it again, but I have so much stuff already...maybe if we get a mini-group going I might join in. After all it does tie into my reading theme next year of gods/angels/demons as Paul becomes a messianic/divine being, with his son going even further in later books...

When were you thinking of starting reading it?

message 71: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin (cait_coy) I'd be interested in joining a read of Dune, I've been meaning to re-read it in 2021 since I haven't read it since high school.

The Joy of Erudition | 117 comments I plan to read Dune this year, too. As Andrea asked, around what time would you want to read it? Most of my January reading is already lined up.

message 73: by Rosenblue (new)

Rosenblue | 19 comments Is the group still doing "buddy reads" or is this discontinued?

message 74: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 3449 comments It kind of died out on it's own, but, well if no one suggests anything then they just won't happen, so definitely go ahead and see if anyone wants to join you in a read! Would love to see that revived.

The group reads aren't happening right now, we started getting only like 3 nominations, and then like 5 votes, and 2 people actually participating so that wasn't any fun. But a buddy read only needs 2 people so will be much easier to start up again.

message 75: by Rosenblue (new)

Rosenblue | 19 comments Okay I see...
How about I suggest a book?
Hideyuki Kikuchi's Vampire Hunter D (Saiko Takaki version) is the book I choose.

Adora | 1 comments I have just started Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman
Does anyone want to read this with me? It is available on Kindle, but I don't recommend it - some of the pages would be too hard to read that way. It should be available at your local library and it's fairly cheap from Amazon. This is a re-read for me, but it's been a while since I first read it.
