Ryan (ryancan564) | 144 comments So I read this book around the 2009-2013. I didn't get too far into it, but here's what I recalled from the first few chapters. This teenage guy has the ability to communicate with ghosts, many of them tell him of their unfinished business. He does not enjoy this power because of a previous incident that didn't work out when he tried to help. A ghost tries to ask him to help his adult daughter, but he shoves it off. He later finds himself going to this manor that is owned by an old widower and his teenage son, and supposedly learn a dark secret that would require him to use his ability again, I think.

From what I remember on the back cover, this is either the first or second book in a small series. The book cover has the main guy in a black background, with blue eyes and brown hair. A girl is behind, and I think is almost faded into the shadows.

Any suggestion is much obliged.

Ryan, can we eliminate A Boy Worth Knowing by Jennifer Cosgrove and ParaNorman by Elizabeth Cody Kimmel?

Can you tell us more about the boy - his age, interests/hobbies/favorite school subjects, family/friends, personality, etc.? When did he start communicating with ghosts?

What is the story's time period and location - country, region, big city/small town?

Ryan (ryancan564) | 144 comments Yes, those two books are definitely not the book I was thinking of.

The guy's age seems to be 16, since I think he's a junior in high school. For most of what I managed to read, he seems to be pretty annoyed and depressed since his ghost powers has been more of a nuisance, but he appears shy or just bored to strangers. His communication with ghosts are since he was like a very young child, supposedly. I think the location takes place in either the UK or USA. The mansion is definitely in an isolated place, likely a small town in possibly northeastern states of US. Time period is "present" time : mid-to-late 2000s to early 2010s at most.

I hope this helps clarifies it a bit more.

Ryan ~~
You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 81 where far fewer eyes will see it.
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!

If the ghost wanting help for his adult daughter is an important plot point, what was the problem?

What was his first experience talking to a ghost? Can he see the ghosts?

message 10: by Ryan (new) - added it

Ryan (ryancan564) | 144 comments The ghost asking for help in the beginning is not an important plot point, that I remember, but to introduce readers to the MC's gift of seeing spirits.

No, this was not his first time communicating with a ghost, I believe he can see them too. I think the time setting is also late 2000s at least.

I added some plot details to the topic header, so your book might be recognized from the header alone. Feel free to update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website not the Mobile website or app.

Finders Keepers (Gifted, #4) by Marilyn Kaye Finders Keepers by Marilyn Kaye?

Google search of Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ:
site:goodreads.com "young adult" "fantasy" "boy" "talk to ghosts"

Is the teenage boy the main character in this series?

Ryan (ryancan564) | 144 comments Yes! This is exactly the book I had in mind. Surprise I didn't see this under the YA paranormal list. Thank you so much, I appreciate the search effort!
