Fablehaven
In Fablehaven Kendra and Seth’s parents are going on a cruise. Kendra and Seth get to go stay with their grandpa. They soon discover that there grandpa manages a piece of land that is home to many mythical and magical creatures. They find out about this by kendra solving a complex puzzle and then drinking a special type of milk that allows them to see all the fairies around.
A guy named maddox came to sell them more fairies. Maddox is known a fairy broker which is someone who catches fairies in the wild and then sells them to owners of the few areas of land that are home to the different types of magical creatures. Seth is inspired by maddox and decides to try and catch a fairy on the reserve. Seth tries very hard but it seems like the fairies are way to agile and can dodge his net.
After a while of Seth trying to catch a fairy Kendra comes over to make fun of him. After she leaves Seth decides he’s going to use a new tactic, he’s going to try to lure the fairies in with a mirror and then catch them. Fairies think that they are the most beautiful thing in existence s they like to stare at themselves in a mirror. After a few more hours Seth finally catches one of the fairies. Seth decides that it took too much work to just release the fairy. So he chooses to keep the fairy in a jar.
What Seth didn’t know is that if you keep a fairy indoors overnight they will turn into an imp. An imp is a nasty version of the fairy that is ugly and cruel. After seth’s fairy turns into an imp and escapes he decides to go up into the treehouse. A few moments later the tree house started rumbling and shaking. Seth thought he might’ve been experiencing an earthquake. To his surprise when he looked outside he discovered that the fairies were attacking.
The fairies shook the tree house until it fell over. Kendra heard the noise of it smashing into the ground and went to check it out. She soon realized that the fairies were attacking Seth. She yelled at Seth telling him to go into the pool. Seth ran towards the pool and preceded to leap in. The fairies were all hovering just above the water. Kendra was screaming for help, but by the time grandpa arrived it was too late the fairies had turned Seth into a horrifying mutated form.
The conflict in Fablehaven is that Seth caught a fairy which made the fairies and the other woodland creatures angry. The Fairies then punished seth by turning him into to a disgusting beast like form. Then grandpa Sorenson is forced to use one of the witches knots to reverse the spells set on Seth.
After this the witch only has one knot left before its free. Once the witch is free it can cause problems for the the reserve. If the witch causes problems than the other magical creatures will follow along. Therefore causing a bunch of other problems.
I thought Fablehaven was a pretty good book because it takes you into a more fun magical world with characters that feel real. you truly feel immersed in the story.
