This is our book discussion for April 2019.

I initially thought the second part of the title should have been named 'The Power of Statistical Thinking' since many of the first chapters deal with statistics. However other topics do come on later in the book.

I enjoyed reading about Hamming Code and Claude's Shannon's contribution to Information theory - this is an area that I don't know much about ( Still in the TBR pile the book on Claude Shannon ) .

The story of the Baltimore stock broker was illuminating as was the election results problem. The theory that mediocrity exerts itself in the long run for any business was something new.

The book illustrates the pitfalls of using p-value to decide statistical significance vs using p-value to decide what is “statistically noticeable� or “statistically detectable�.

I thought the null hypothesis could have articulated better.

The chapters start from real world stories and makes it very interesting to follow - and the chapter on winning the lottery was entertaining.

I did think the book was a bit too long.
