Ned Begay narrates this historical fiction novel featuring the Navajo code talker Marines of World War II. As you read, you hear him tell his grandchildren about his roll in the Pacific Theater against the Japanese. Sadly, you also hear the story of racism. Over 400 young men quietly used their language in an unbreakable code to help the United States deliver strategic plans and important messages. These were messages that won the war. Yet, on his way home, he is treated by white people, as they have always treated him...like the scum of the earth. This is an unending battle. How can we ever win?
