Allow me to create a word: "Hagiography" means "the biography of a saint." "Autobiography" is a biography written about one-self. Thus "Auto-hagiography" should be the autobiography of a saint.

We have read several auto-hagiographies in the club: St. Teresa of Ávila, St. Antonio María Claret, St. Therese de Lisieux. All of them were written as an act of obedience to their superiors, or their confessors. All of them were written for restricted use, but were soon made public for everybody. Some of them became Doctors of the Church. What good results do you think can be obtained from reading them?

Madeleine Myers | 303 comments I think seeing the stages a particular saint goes through on the path to sanctification, especially one who may have begun the journey in a state close to our own, gives hope and inspiration and suggestions for our own journey.

Personally I like auto-hagiographies much better than hagiographies written by other authors. I find the saints nearer if they themselves speak, than if they are spoken about. Some of the things they say can be directly applicable to me.

Tania (tmartnez) | 116 comments This is the first time I read an auto-hagiography, and I think that no one better than Saint Therese for describing her own way of thinking and feeling.
Her path and christian life was indeed as a soft breeze.

Lawrence Jakows (lawrence_jakows) | 2 comments This is an important question for all of us: "What good results...."

For me, it is simply to understand the mind of God better; His will, His desires for me.

Books by St. Catherine of Siena and St. Faustina have made a substantial impact on my life. I've read both Confessions and Story of A Soul twice. I love our saints.
