Cheryl L | 396 comments A Memory Called Empire and A Desolation Called Peace have been on my shelf for a few years now. I'm currently on chapter 7 and thoroughly enjoying this book. It seems unique in that the basis of the culture appears to be Aztec.

The sun gods and emphasis on the sun and sun temples, the name of the empire/culture "Teixcalaan" has an Aztec ring to me, and the ancient/outdated practice of human sacrifice. (This doesn't seem to be a central theme in the book, more an aside, so shouldn't be spoilery.)
