❶İձ❶ (ttea) | 9615 comments There are also Hercule Poirot books starting with E and both wit right tag. They are shortish (around 200 pgs) so I could squeeze both too

I'll wait so see what others got before making final decision

That might be a good idea. I'll see which ones I have lying around, maybe I can read one of those, too.

Emma (M) | 1777 comments Hello Team!

My shelf for the challenge is wheelathon-2019

So probably my hardest genre to fulfill will be New Adult and possibly Shifters. The only shifters books I really like are from the Immortals After Dark Series and I’ve only just read-read them. In saying that, there are few genres I couldn’t find something I’d be happy to read, so I’m sure I could rustle up something in those two genres.

I don’t mind memoirs and have Stephen King’s On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft waiting to be read on my bookshelf and I love a good space opera or horror book.

My shelf is Wheelathon4

Hello all!

So this is what it is like to be on a team with Europeans. I wake up to 54 unread posts. lol!
We've always tried to have Australia and Europe on different teams as it is the hardest timezone combination. But then I find I end up never playing with certain people, and I couldn't pass up the chance to play as a team member with a captain like E. And having Tea here is also a bonus! After all these years together we are on the same team. woot.

Anyhow, I didn't want to be a co-cap or cap this time around as I have my uni exams this week and next. I am also on holidays the end of July/early August. Add in a cut-off time that is my early morning... and well... great opportunity to sit back and just read :)
So I have signed up as 10bpm, but for the first week I will only be reading one due to those pesky exams. The second exam is next Wed, so I guess it is possible I can sneak in two,
I'm going with
Naked in Death (In Death #1) by J.D. Robb which gives us atleast an E. Plus it works for my cleaning out the closet challenge AND is marked suspense.
I may also then pull out a Poirot. I'll try and find one with an O
Are we using a tracking spreadsheet?

Most difficult genre for me is Horror as I can't read it. Just not for me in any shape. Even some Karin Slaughter is too much for me which can give you an idea of how I do not like blood, gore, realistic evil, hurting children, violence etc.
HOWEVER, I can pull out some non-horror Stephen King books or the Spook's Apprentice series if we end up with that genre as books that are tagged horror but actually are not :)
Memoirs are a pain because they tend to be long. I just finished two recently which is a bummer. Not even sure I have any others on my tbr lol. I will always try and find something to fit.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6237 comments Hi everyone, Checking in... I LOVE the Wheel.. even if it is brown.

This is going to be great for me time wise because I'm in Australia for a month and then in the UK for a month, so someone will always be awake when I'm awake!

I've got these two to start... Cleaning the Gold (Jack Reacher, #23.6; Will Trent, #8.5) by Karin Slaughter and Fantasy in Death (In Death, #30) by J.D. Robb which should both be in suspense but I'll check and confirm.

Good to see you're finally getting on the In Death Train, Karen. Hope you enjoy it.

I know... it is one of those "one day" books, but seeing it is in my closet challenge this year and fits wheelathon, I'm going to bite the bullet!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6237 comments I just checked Cleaning the Gold (Jack Reacher, #23.6; Will Trent, #8.5) by Karin Slaughter and at 114 pages, it's too short so scrap that one. I'm sure I can find another suspense... back later.

Camilla | 1885 comments Huh, I checked this thread in the morning, it was still locked, I go out for the day and you've managed to chat into the second page already!

I'm Camilla from Finland, have participated in previous couple of Wheels, favorite genres are horror, thrillers, scifi and non-fiction. I'm currently traveling in the US and will return home on the 15th, so it will mean a bit of a slow start for me, especially since I'm always in the middle of several books and it takes a while to finish them. But I'll catch up during later weeks. Looking forward to playing with you all!

Is anyone reading the YA BOM starting June 16? There aren't a lot of BOM DQ volunteers so far (and you need to put your hand up to volunteer by the 13th)
/topic/show/...

Unfortunately with my exams I won't be able to get to this in the time of the BOM

Judy | 3847 comments Hi everyone!

My shelf is /review/list...

Shifters is probably the one genre I can't do, otherwise I should be able to find a couple books for everything. Horror isn't my thing either but I guess there's a classic or two I can find for that.

Suspense wasn't easy to find but I've got The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle (apparently there's a C character) & Fingersmith ready to go for next week.

I was lowkey saving this up for a reread anyway (cause of the U) so I think I'll participate in the discussion. My brain is still too fried from my thesis to think up questions though.

Can't do this one... but have put my hand up for DQ's for the next Adult BOM - Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Fantastic!

I've just gone through the books you've mentioned and have updated the spreadsheet with all the information. We only need 2 more books with top shelf genre Suspense to have covered the 10 we're allowed to read! :-)

(To answer your question, Karen: No, not using a tracking spreadsheet - I find it to be double the work.)

Just as a side note as far as the spreadsheet is concerned:
Links will be added once you're done and put the edition you've read on your WAT shelf - and page numbers will then be double checked as well. I've for now put the numbers of the editions linked here, which may not necessarily be the ones you're reading.

I will! I've heard really good things but also that it's super slow so I'm a bit apprehensive... but it'll knock another book off my Cleaning out the TBR Closet so that's always a win!

Kristel | 287 comments Wow, only been away from the computer for 12 hours and already so much has been happening:)

Books that I'm planning on reading for week 1:
Wayward Pines, osa I - 266 pg and tagged suspense
Aurora Rising - 480 pg

The slow part is why I'm not sure whether I should go for The Historian or not. It is top shelf suspense and has 700+ pages, but reviews are mixed and apparently it's a bit of a slow read.

Then again... I could always try and if it's too slow, then I'll pick up something faster and this will then be completed in one of the weeks to come.

It would be an ooold book off my TBR and finally getting rid of it for the Closet Challenge (I've been dragging that book from year to year ever since Karen started that challenge haha).

message 86: by Judy (new)

Judy | 3847 comments That really looks quite daunting!

I usually try to listen to the audiobook or at least switch formats from time to time if it's a super slow read, somehow they seem to go by faster and I don't mind the boring bits when I'm listening to it - there's no way I could've gotten through ASOIAF without the audio!

700+ pages and mixed reviews seems a bit daunting, but if you think you can handle it go for it. I mean it gives quite a lot of points. That may make reading it easier if it turns out to be a bit slow😅

Yeeeep.... audio helps for those parts! (like the Waterloo description in Les Mis... haha)

Generally, I'm not all too much a fan of audio though, and I find I retain much less of the story if I listen rather than read, which is a shame, and weird.

Hahaha, right?
Maybe I'll just dig in on Sunday, spend the day reading and see how it goes. If it's terrible, I can always just switch to In Death right away and then go with something else as a second book and make my way through this slowly. We're bound to get other letters it fits for, if not necessarily genre.

Oh God I haven't even made it to Waterloo yet! Was hoping to catch up on that this week but alas...

For me audio really works when I'm doing something else that needs only a little brainpower at the same time... like cleaning, cooking, coloring, etc.

Same!
I actually broke out a jigsaw puzzle last weekend and just listened to some Les Mis audio in order to catch up because I'm so, so behind on that.

Anything that requires more attention, and I will completely blank out the audio and it becomes background noise I do not listen to.

One of the most inspiring books I ever read. well worth reading, IMO :)

message 93: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12359 comments I thought The Historian wasn't too bad. A fairly slow read in terms of action, I guess, but if I remember correctly kept me turning the pages pretty well (it's been almost 15 years, so not 100% sure. Still have the book though, so definitely didn't hate it, lol)

Also, when they said chatty teams on the sign-up, I'm thinking they meant us ;)

I make cards or do altered art/art journalling. Been doing a lot of that this month, as I've all 47 hours of The Count of Monte Cristo to get through!!

Sammy wrote: "Also, when they said chatty teams on the sign-up, I'm thinking they meant us ;)"

Yes, yes they did ;-)

And thanks for the heads-up about The Historian! That sounds manageable for sure. I don't always need a lot of action in my books as long as it keeps me turning the pages.

Art Journalling sounds very creative! :-)
Monte Cristo I started last year and then I got really far behind in the BR we had at the time, so now I'm still not very far in, though I've enjoyed the chapters I've read a lot. And loved the 4 part movie with Gérard Depardieu back when it came out.

Kristel | 287 comments How to post completions for books:

Every completion post must contain the following information:

Title:
Author:
Date read:
Pages:
Letters: + reason (aka character name ect.)
If it works for the Genre task.
If it's a BOM, then link to your comments + if you wrote DQ or participated in the discussion.

And of course if you want you can always let us know your thoughts about the book and if you'd recommend it to us:)

message 97: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12359 comments I've got to finish Monte Cristo in the next week. I'm reading it for RSU. Loving it though! It's just that it goes on for ever!

Art journalling is fun. And I am pretty much always covered in ink, paint and glue. Lots of hard work keeping it off my books though, hehe...

I.... just volunteered for DQ questions and will participate in the BOM discussion in the NBRC Back Room (the 18+ BOMs and discussions are held there).

I kept forgetting that the group exists, and only just rejoined because I stepped away from all those books a while ago, but for the sake of snagging some extra points, I'm going to read Perfect Formation.

It's currently free on kindle, if anyone else wants to snag a copy and join the BOM (& volunteer for DQ). Just don't expect much going in to this one. These freebies tend to be a little on the terrible side haha.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6237 comments Good to be on your team too, Eldarwen!

And great to see we are already chatting away everyone...

I have another suspense book to add with a C title so far.. City of the Lost (Rockton, #1) by Kelley Armstrong

I'll just commit to 2 books for this week and see if I can squeeze another short one in at the end. Lots of real life stuff getting in the way of my reading at the moment but somehow wheelathons always inspire me to read just that little bit more, LOL.
