I listen a few podcasts that have to do with fiction: Welcome to Nightvale, Lavar Burton Reads, and Classic Tales Podcast. Oh and a poetry podcast, The Slowdown. The rule I set for myself was to only count it as a book read if an entire book was read. So, for example, on the Classic Tales podcast, the narrator read the book The Hand of Fumanchu and he just started on The Importance of Being Ernest. I'll count those two.
I don't count what I hear on say Levar Burton reads because he reads short stories and not always from the same book. I'd count it, though, if he read an entire collection of short stories from the same author or editor (For example, if he read all the stories in Uncommon Type, I'd count that). I don't count Welcome to Nightvale or The Slowdown as books read because one is an ongoing tale and one is a five minute reading and commentary on just one particular poem.
That was a pretty long-winded answer, but I hope it made sense.
Happy reading and happy podcasting.

librarian4Him02 has a good response for you especially in that it is your challenge.
I listen almost exclusively to audiobooks in which the narrator reads word for word which is what I and many others want, so it doesn't matter if the fully narrated book is 46 hrs or only 25 minutes it is counted.
If the podcast is a full book then I count it, if not then I don't. But that's me. Your message 3 response is great.
Enjoy your reading challenge.
