Leane Karen wrote: "How is everyone doing on their goals?"

I need to step it up. At least 100 pages a day.

How about you?

message 21: by Kate (new)

Kate Karen wrote: "How is everyone doing on their goals?"

I'm only 20 pages into Gone with the Wind. Only another 991 pages to go! lol

message 22: by Leticia (new)

Leticia (leticiatoraci) I read one book that took long enough, 5 days, because it was so full of details and I'm reading a second but not really enjoying it, but I'll try and finish it. I still want to read at least other 3 books this month but I'm not hurrying up or getting stressed with it.

message 23: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments I am doing well so far, better than last month. Yesterday, I picked a book that I knew I could read quickly. Today, I am reading a classic, so it will slow down my reading.

I have made progress, although I would like to get more done, I am pleased with what I have done: I have started on my project to read all of the Bronte novels, I had only read Jane Eyre to date, I am now reading The Professor by Charlotte Brontë.

Leane: you are doing great, enjoy what you are reading.
Kate: I am impressed, I have never been able to read more that a couple of pages of Gone With the Wind.
Leticia: I know what you mean, sometimes reading something we don't enjoy, slows us a down. It takes me forever to read a non-fiction book, even if I am enjoying the experience and learning a great deal.

I really had to push through to finish Gone with the Wind. (Not because it's bad, but because it's long!)
I did partial reading and partial audio, which I think helped me a lot.

Thank you, Karen. That's a nice goal: all the Bronte novels!

message 26: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments I think I have started each Bronte novel a few times (besides Jane Eyre), and just couldn't get past the first chapter. Now I am determined to push further. I just finished the Professor by Charlotte, and even though it wasn't as good as Jane Eyre, I am really glad I read it. Now on to Shirley.

Karen wrote: "How is everyone doing on their goals?"

I really haven't set a particular goal for myself. My overall goal for the year is to read 30 books, which I will probably hit before the end of summer.

message 28: by stephanie (new)

stephanie (disneygirl) With our yearly town festival and Independence day festivities I haven't been reading much at all. Now I have 2 library books I had on hold and one from Omni I started 2 weeks ago - I need to get all 3 read before they're due back...... so my home library goals are crushed already :/

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments How's everyone doing? What books have you enjoyed this month so far? Are there any that surprised you, for good or bad?

I have been enjoying Shirley by Charlotte Brontë, I knew nothing about this book, before starting it, other than that the author of Jane Eyre wrote it.

I'm doing well. Finished up a book today and I have two more that became available through my library that I've been waiting on for a long time!
I have to work on my home TBR list! (Not stressing about it though!)

message 31: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments That's right Leane, don't stress. Pleasure reading should be just that, a pleasure, not stressful.

message 32: by Kate (new)

Kate I'm about a third of the way through Gone With the Wind. Its taken me one week to get that far so I have high hopes of finishing the book by the end of the month - mainly thanks to this readathon! Its been a great incentive to keep logging the pages. :)

message 33: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Kate, how do you like Gone With the Wind?

message 34: by Kate (new)

Kate Thankfully, its fairly easy reading just excessively long!
I've brushed up a bit on the American Civil War via Wikipedia (!) as I have found that a bit of background to events is a help. Its just rather unfortunate that she's quite a dislikeable character but I guess that's no different from Jane Austen's Emma or Shakespeare's Katherine in Taming of the Shrew so she's in good company!

I really hated Scarlett. There were a few times during the book that I was thinking she was okay, but she always f*cked that up with her bratty attitude.

I had a hard time with Scarlett's character as well, maybe that is why I never could move on with the book.

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Good Morning everyone, we are coming down the stretch. How's everyone doing?

message 38: by Leane (new)

Leane I'm loving the book The Legend of Sheba Rise of a Queen by Tosca Lee that I'm currently reading.
It took me forever to pick up this book but I'm finding it really interesting.

Even though I cannot stand her, I think fans of Daenerys in Game of Thrones would probably love this character. Also people who love descriptive surroundings.

Leane Karen wrote: "I'm not a fan of Daenerys either. The book sounds interesting!"

I put it aside to read Warlight, which I had on hold with my library forever. I'm kind of disappointed because the beginning part of this book was super interesting but now I feel I'm walking through weed waiting to get to the occasional flower.

I'm glad I skipped Goldfinch. I find a lot more people were disappointed than loved it.

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Leticia, what did you think of Traitor to the Throne? I really liked the first book.

Leticia (leticiatoraci) I'm happy about the amount of reading I did in July. In August I will participate the first two weeks only as I will be in vacations the last two.
