Bella really is the worst, But I still love the series (and have no idea why exactly????)

HOW? I honestly have no idea how to read without hearing each word in my head. Which of course means, I..."
Thanks. Those article were interesting. I don't really care about how fast or slow I read, though, so I'll continue to either actual or subvocalize. It's gotten me though life this far.

If you don't already have some, get some shoes you can wear in the pool while you're water walking. The water will soften the skin on your feet, and the concrete bottom of the pool will scrape that softened skin raw. BTDT.

Hands down the most memorable audiobook narrator was Jeremy Irons reading Lolita. If anyone can make a total creep intriguing, it's him. I grew up with the Jim Dale recordings of Harry Potter which are always terrific. I really enjoyed Bahni Turpin reading The Hate U Give. Wil Wheaton reading Ready Player One was such a perfect tongue-in-cheek casting choice because he's even mentioned in the book!
As for authors narrating their own books, Roxane Gay reading Hunger and Elizabeth Acevedo reading The Poet X were both stellar.
For those of you struggling with the writing style of Daisy Jones and the Six, the audiobook is a full cast which I think makes it more interesting and easier to get through. It also features Judy Green who is a goddess. I also thoroughly enjoyed The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, but unfortunately the audiobook isn't at my library anymore so I can't look up who the narrator was.
I'm currently listening to Black Leopard Red Wolf narrated by Dion Graham - his accents, voices, and style are all wonderful but man is that a TOUGH book to listen to.

Finished:
* The Gold-Son by Carrie Anne Noble, which I used for "a book featuring an extinct or imaginary creature" (leprechauns and trolls, primarily);
* Endurance: A Year in Space, A Lifetime of Discovery by Scott Kelly, which I used for "a book set in space." I may double up in this category since the book covered more than just his year in space; I picked up Dawn by Octavia E. Butler yesterday for one of the BookRiot prompts and will probably count it for this prompt too.
* The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra by Vaseem Khan, which was one of my book club's picks for July. We'll discuss it next weekend.
Currently Reading:
* The Murder List by Hank Phillippi Ryan -- I received an ARC, so I get to pick up where the sneak peek left off sooner than expected (hooray!);
* The Princess Saves Herself in This One by Amanda Lovelace, which is for a BookRiot prompt; and,
* The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo, which I'm planning to use for the zodiac/astrology prompt.
On Deck Next:
* The Perplexing Theft of the Jewel in the Crown by Vaseem Khan; and,
* Dawn by Octavia E. Butler
QotW:
Do you have any favorite audiobook narrators? I don't listen to many audiobooks (my commute is verrrrrry short, so it takes me forever to listen to audiobooks), but I really enjoyed Robin Miles's narration of Barracoon: The Story of the Last "Black Cargo". I don't think the book would have had the same impact if I'd read it on paper and am so glad I experienced Cudjo Lewis's story in this way. The audio version was just under 4 hours, so it was much easier for me to work into my schedule.

The Cat Next Door A quiet sort of mystery. Short book that could have used some more pages, lol
Parkland: Birth of a Movement, which was a hard topic.
QotW: I don't really listen to a lot of audio books, though I've been getting the Audiosync books.
I don't really know any narrators yet, though I loved listening to Neil Gaiman read The Graveyard Book.

This week will be less busy but I will miss check in again as I will be on a plane somewhere between here and home.
Finished only one book: No Need to Shout which is a classroom management text.
Trying to get Atonement finished before I go home but not liking my chances.
QOTW: Don't do audio though I did consider it with all the driving lately.

Like I said earlier, I just haven't been reading as much as normal this year, but I did finish 3 books this week! One took me 6 weeks, but oh well!
Finished
The Cold Dish for Prompt #25 A Debut Novel
I rated this 4 stars. Westerns aren't my thing, but I do love a good mystery, and this fit the ticket! I've now met the author 3 different times and he is so funny, boisterous, and intelligent, I finally picked up his first book! There are about 15 books in the series now, so that's good for me since I loved the first!
Open Road Summer
I gave this 4 stars as well. A good summer read. Quick, easy, and fun!
The Last of August
This was a reread. I gave it 4 stars like I did the first time. I love these books, for what they are. Its basically like reading a modern day Sherlock Holmes, but with teenagers as the MCs.
Currently Reading
An American Marriage
Nevernight
The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy
Heir of Fire Reread

Do you have any favorite audiobook narrators?
I don't listen to audiobooks often, but I do like Julia Whelan and Wil Wheaton. I also love Davina Porter.

What prompts are you stuck on?

I like the speed options on Android Audible, it goes up gradually. I'm temporarily back on iOS due to a phone fault and I'm annoyed that I have to listen at 1.5 rather than 1.65 which was perfect for this narration (when I switched phones it was at normal speed and ridiculously drawn out to my ears). 1.75 is just a tad too fast.

I don't put much stock in reading speed. I think reading comprehension is more important. But I did take an online reading speed test and can confirm that I'm a slow reader lol

I'll help you with prompts you may be stuck on, but I just wanted to say that I almost never hear anyone but myself and my mom say EGAD!!! Lol, I love it!

I had a similar situation with an audiobook but the author/reader sounded like his dentures were moving around in his mouth. It was really annoying.

I do love a good egad, but not nearly as much as the rarely spotted Gadzooks!

I've listened to hundreds of audiobooks and I've never paid for one. You can borrow them through your library. Either "hardcopy" CDs at the library, or online through whatever program your library uses (Overdrive is popular).
