message 14: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Some of the other teams have started talking strategy. Do we want to strategize or just go with the flow?

message 15: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 527 comments I need to review the rules again. I kind of skimmed them, but I'm not sure I have a great grasp on them. Do you know when we will have access to the spreadsheet? It might help to plan out a little bit what we are planning to read.

message 16: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments I have requested access. I might have access to it at home and not at work (different gmail accts.) So hopefully soon we will have access. I've read the rules several time lol and some things still seem a bit vague to me.

That's awesome! I had wanted to be a teacher when I was younger but as I grew older I realized I didn't have the patience for it!

message 23: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Alright, I have access to the spreadsheet now. I think you guys will have to request access on the google sheet.

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Does anyone have an idea of which tasks they would like to do?

message 26: by Victorian Vickie (new)

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) We have to read, as a team, 10 books correct? Or can 1 book meet several tasked? Just checking!

Vickie

As a team, 10 different books

So two of us could pick 3 of the tasks and the other two 2 of the tasks. All 10 books have to be completed before moving on to the safe zone.

message 28: by Victorian Vickie (new)

Victorian Vickie (vhartwell) With school starting.. I can take task 9 and 7- rereading Harry Potter book 5 so that has more than 9 characters

message 29: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments These are the books I own or can borrow from my library that I have figured so far, so let me know which ones you want me to do
10-Circe published April 10, 2018
7-Holy Sister Mary Lawrence has well over 7 books
6-Hoarfrost -6th in the Whyborne and Griffin series<
5-A Pocket Full of Rye published in 1953
1-Red, White & Royal Bluea debut novel

message 30: by Teri (last edited Jul 26, 2019 04:20AM) (new)

Teri | 678 comments Okay sorry, I read Victorian Vickie's post wrong, so I see we don't need 7. I could do the other 4 (10, 6, 5, and 1)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Good morning ladies!!

Challenge starts on Monday the 12th which is fast approaching! (Still don't have a time)

Does everyone have access to the sheet? If you don't and you're comfortable sending me your email then you can send it to me in a dm.

One last thing, if you're not able to participate in the challenge please let me know so I can get a replacement player!

I hope so too! Really hoping he doesn't have the flu and that it's just a stomach bug that will be gone soon!

Teri wrote: "I have Killer Bond which is by 2 authors--Jocelynn Drake and Rinda Elliott"

Sounds good! Hopefully you won't have to read 5 of the first 10 books though!

lol. Just wanted to put out what I've got, those are what would be easiest, I don't know what everyone else has. I'm flexible as far as changing tasks.

message 39: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Once we finish all the countdown books we can begin the safe zone. We need to decide if we want to start with group 1 or group 2.

Group 1:
L
A
V
A

Two of these need to be a book that another team has read or a previous NBRC BOM.

Group 2:
i. Read a book with red writing on the cover where the title contains the letters L-A-V-A (doesn't need to be in that order)
ii. Read a book with a red cover (>50%) where the author contains the letters H-O-T (doesn't need to be in that order)
iii. Read a book with something hot on the cover (open to interpretation) and that contains the word LAVA in the text
iv. Read a book with something hot on the cover (open to interpretation) and that contains the letters L-A-V-A in the author's name (doesn't need to be in that order)

message 40: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Group 2 is harder but each task is 20pts more than group one.

Group 3 is pretty broad so I think we should do that group when/if we finish groups 1&2

Let me know what you think and what you would prefer to do!

message 41: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments I'm going to look up some books that would fit for Group 2. I am all for more points, but want to see what works.

message 42: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments Do we have a link to tineye? or whatever the thing is that tells you what % of the color is on the cover

message 43: by Teri (last edited Aug 08, 2019 12:28PM) (new)

Teri | 678 comments For Group 2:
i. I have struck out on this one.

ii. The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror or Not Quite a Husband (both are at my library)

iii. This is kind of hard because until you have the book, how do you know if its in the text, but I have 2 potentials. Pamela Clare's Chasing Fire or Slow Burn

iv. Hide Your Crazy by Lani Lynn Vale (this I already own)

message 44: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments So I guess my preference is Group 2, if we can find something for i (it's hard!), but I will go with what everyone wants to do.

message 45: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments

I don't have anything for i. either and don't really know how to go about searching for one. I agree that iii. is hard because of the whole in the text thing. I have a book for group 1 that was a previous BOM that is on KU and it fits for letter A.

Maybe we can make an alliance with another team? Or troll their conversations lol

message 46: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments I am still looking for i.
Hopefully I will find something. Or we can totally do group 1. I am going to get one of my novels for iii and see if it will work. If I find something for i, I will let you know. I don't know how the alliance thing works really, but I am down for whatever.

message 47: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments for i
how about Romanus & Chevalier (Romanus #1-2) by Mary Calmes or just Chevalier (Romanus, #2) by Mary Calmes on GRs page, it says (Romanus) in parenthesis, does that count?

or

Vlad The Last Confession by C.C. Humphreys

Lol I think we just ask a team... or two and hope someone says yes!

I know the Vlad book would work I can ask about the other one (2? lol) and see what they say.

message 49: by Sharon (last edited Aug 08, 2019 05:42PM) (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 527 comments There's a list of books with titles in red font. Here are some of the ones I found that could work if anyone can get a copy of the book:

Blood in the Snow The True Story of a Stay-At-Home Dad, His High-Powered Wife, and the Jealousy That Drove Him to Murder by Tom Henderson Love and Other Consolation Prizes by Jamie Ford A Lady in the Smoke A Victorian Mystery by Karen Odden Vlad The Last Confession by C.C. Humphreys Above All Things by Tanis Rideout
