Sandrine (sandrinecph) Hello fellow book-addicts,

This is my first TBR challenge!
I will not buy/borrow any book before I have read all the ones waiting on my shelves... I have around 20 of them.

Here are the 6 books I have decided to start with:

- Let the Right One In - John Ajvide Lindqvist

- Slaughterhouse-Five - Kurt Vonnegut

- Life Inc. How the World Became a Corporation and How to Take It Back - Douglas Rushkoff

- No Logo No Space, No Choice, No Jobs - Naomi Klein

- I Am That Talks with Sri Nisargadatta - Nisargadatta Maharaj

- Mord i mørket - Dan Turell (currently learning danish)

I don't think I can stay 6 months without buying a single book, so let's see how long it takes me to finish those!

Sandrine (sandrinecph) Finished Slaughterhouse-Five... Crazy yet deep story, impressive how the author manages to send a strong message about war in a book where he writes about a time-traveller who happens to have sex with a porn actress on another planet!

I had started reading "I am that" at the same time as Slaughterhouse-5, but it's a bit too heavy to read before going to sleep, so it has become a rainy-weekend-only book. I am now beginning "Let the right one in". Not sure I have made the best choice, as I can see after a few pages that it's the kind of book that can keep me up a couple of hours!

Sandrine (sandrinecph) Progressing slowly but surely on "I am that". Finished "Let the right one in" in a couple of days in October, during a holiday weekend. I have some kind of fascination for vampire stories, and I found this one really particular, somewhat refreshing even if it is darker than most of the famous ones. No glamorous bloodsuckers in this novel, just an everyday child who has been plagued with a disease that is difficult to live with.

I have nearly reached the end of "No Logo". It feels pretty tempting to continue with "Life inc.", I am sure there are some interesting links between those two books.

Sandrine (sandrinecph) Right after No Logo, I have managed to complete "Mord i mørket" in less than a week! If I put aside the mandatory books from the language school, which are especially written for beginners, this was my first book in danish! It was surprisingly easy, I didn't feel overwhelmed by the words that I couldn't understand. Now I feel that even if I haven't attended a course in nearly two years, my reading comprehension has improved, probably thanks to the newspapers articles. The book in itself is really not exceptional, a crime story with a pretty unsurprising ending, but an interesting description of the atmosphere in the Vesterbro district in Copenhagen at the beginning of the 80's.

Next book that I will start tonight: "Life Inc." Still reading "I am that", hope to finish it in one week!
