Anahit Arustamyan Where I Meet Myself
In her latest collection of poems, the Armenian poetess Anahit Arustamyan, promises to take us to one of the most intimate of precious places: Where I Meet Myself. In this latest work we are in some senses in her previous territory of romantic and philosophical poems rich in metaphors and allegorical expressions, but she is also taking us beyond the every day , beyond the real. We are entering the world of the Surreal: the world of Salvador Dali, Rene Magritte and Juan Miro. In ‘My Fascinated Fantasy (p.29) she tells us:
‘The clock is singing.
How many times I
Have heard its old
³§´Ç²Ô²µ!â€
Similar to her earlier work, she charms and seduces and totally runs off with my heart. In Where I Meet Myself the besotted Reviewer meets the Poetess exactly where he wants to (on page 61) where I discover that I am being led to a secret place, to be told: ‘My Love Poem Is For You. She knows, as did the psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung the creator of the Red Book, that ‘…a fairy tale can be old or new. I do not even have to ask, as she tells me exactly what I want to know: ‘Do You Know Who I Am (p.76):
‘I am my own madness
And your loneliness.
I am a wild breeze lost
In my thoughts forest.
I am your lonely days
Crying on the chest of
Your guitar.
This is a collection I will return to again and again looking for answers to the various questions life throws up at us, and would recommend it to all poetry lovers who have questions to answer. I will leave you with the answer to my latest question, which comes in ‘Life’s Reply (p84): ‘The angel was a human once upon a time.
