Cindy (BKind2Books) (bkind2books) | 1182 comments I have considered all of October my readathon as my life is so crazy right now (my husband is running for mayor and the pace is crazy - I work a full time job that starts at 7am -up at 530am- and usually am doing campaign events, or paperwork, or meetings, or something - almost every evening. My 'days off' usually begin at 630am with door to door canvassing (leaving doorhangers) then events like fairs or meets and greets or driving my husband thru neighborhoods for knocking on doors, followed by BBQs or forums or other events that go on until 9 or 10 at night. I have 8 days to go…sleep is becoming optional). Oh yeah and I have a daughter getting married in January and a half marathon to train for in December.

So with my whining out of the way…this month's reading:

Dracula
Interview with the Vampire
Into the Mist
Strange Candy
Outlander

Working on:
Wormwood: A Collection of Short Stories

Overbooked ✎ (kiwi_fruit) | 800 comments Decided to abandon Nightmares! at page 176

Gavin (thewalkingdude) | 209 comments Ok, update as of Tuesday 28:
Mile 81 44 pages
The Dune 16 pages
Fahrenheit 451 159 pages
Rage 111 pages
The Invisible Man 111
Total so far: 441 pages

Now I'm reading Frankenstein

Aitziber wrote: "Enjoy Rage, Gavin! I read it as a teenager, and it was one of my favorite King books. How did you find it? Secondhand copy, audio book?"
I quite liked it, not one of my favorites from SK, though. I just downloaded a pdf.

Hi Sandy! It was 'A Thousand Acres' that I found depressing - a wonderful, beautiful book (and especially good if you've already read King Lear) that was fantastically well-written. However, as with King Lear, the themes were very, very dark and gritty, and there was a lot of sadness pretty much from page 1. I do recommend, but I found it quite an emotional experience!

Thanks for the critique, Lucy! That's been on my tbr for a long time, but now I know to be a bit careful when I read it. I get emotionally involved with my reading. So I don't do depressing books on the winter. :p

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments Woah, you guys are all doing so well. I'm jealous. I only managed to read about 150 pages... Life keeps getting in the way of my read-a-thon. :/

message 159: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Kiwi, I just finished with Nightmares! and can see why you abandoned it. I was really struggling to get through it and thought it was just the flu that I'm dealing with - glad to see I wasn't the only one that found it a challenge!

My readathon isn't going terribly well, I've been sick with the flu for a couple of days. I'm taking today to rest and hopefully get some reading done when I'm feeling a bit better. I'll be a little more active on here in another day or so. Enjoy the readathon! I'm getting a kick out of the amazing progress that everyone is making.

message 160: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bd200789) I've read 8 more books, and am still working on The Woman in White.I hope to finish it tonight.

Cindy (BKind2Books) (bkind2books) | 1182 comments Renee wrote: "Things sound busy, but also really interesting for you right now, Cindy. :)"

Sort of like the Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times" :)

It is by turns exhilarating and then gut-wrenching, but I am hoping that by next week I'll be able to say it was worth it.

Polly Clarke | 56 comments I'm really pleased to be on track for the books I chose for the readathon. I've left myself 2 days to read my last book Bellman and Black: A Ghost Story. I've been a bit doubtful as to whether I could do all that I planned but I just crammed in some reading where I could. I've managed to read the most pages/books I've ever read in a week (not sure on the exact amount). Really looking forward to reading my final book. Good luck everyone!

☼♎ Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress ☼♎ | 104 comments Ok I finished The Art Forger: A Novel with 384 pages. So my total pages that I've read 972.

message 174: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments Wow, you're really doing an amazing job, Iasa and Rebecca. How are you doing this?!

I think I should be able to at least finish Isla and the Happily Ever After until the Readathon ends (hopefully today so I can read some more of my second book tomorrow). If I can managed that, I read around 400 pages. Still a huge accomplishment with work and advanced training (& some health issues) getting in my way. :)

Ahh, college-life!
Attending lectures with a hangover is one of the requisite skills. Glad you can relax and just cozy with a book now.
