Tammie | 4179 comments Hey everyone! I'm excited to be one of your captains! I have played several times and captained in the past. I love reading! I hope everyone will have fun, pick up a few GR Friends along the way and read lots of wonderful books :)

I'm on GRs quite a lot...I work in Real Estate so I have flexibility to check in often.

My husband and I are empty nesters...two grown children with pets...no grand children...I have grand doggies... :) We travel quite a lot...next week I'm off to NYC and Washington D.C....this time leaving husband behind and traveling with a girl friend.

Once everyone has checked in...we can start talking strategy and questions...we have a few weeks to prepare...we are team Invidia after all...I'm sure we'll be the envy of all!

Annie K. Hi all! I'm Annie, and I'm super excited for this challenge! This is my second Tower Teams, but to be honest, I didn't really know what I was doing the first time around. So, I'm looking forward to actually being a part of this. :)

I live just outside of Chicago, and I love reading, traveling, watching the Chicago Cubs, and pretty much everything Broadway. Can't wait to meet you all, and get started!

message 18: by Ambi (last edited Sep 19, 2019 09:21AM) (new)

Ambi | 615 comments Hey guys! I’m Ambi and this is my first time playing tower teams. I am really excited to be here cause I’ve heard of this challenge so many times. Obviously, I love reading but other than that, I’m a film buff and I love crocheting and sewing ( gives me a lot of time to listen to audiobooks). :)

message 19: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 1805 comments Hey, I am Cecily. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I have been home sick this week but I am an education assistant for the public school board and I love to read. Most of my reads are actually done for challenges, it is like the only thing that keeps me motivated and helps me choose what to read next.

My guilty pleasure is reality tv, I just can't get enough. I have a dog named Zarco and a cat named Sookie. I am going to Florida in like 2 weeks to meet up with some online fitness friends I have been in contact with for over 2 years!

I am super pumped to get started!!

Tina ❣ (nutrinut) | 1962 comments Hey all!

Super excited to play tower teams again. I started last year with the HP one. 🦡

I’m from Melbourne Australia so I might be responding to you guys at opposite times to you. :P

I’m working part time and studying part one at uni doing a Master of Public Heath.
Other than reading, I’m into gardening. Spring has just started so I’ve just planted some new flowers, herbs and vegetables. Hopefully I can keep them alive though. And like always, I must mention that I have a rabbit named Athena and a dog named Jessie.

message 21: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 615 comments Oh gosh, so many of you have pets. I've always wanted a dog but because of my busy schedule, I'm pretty sure I would not be able to give the attention it requires. My friends suggest me to get a cat since they are so independent. But I dunno, I'm not a cat person. :)

message 22: by Em (new)

Em (emmolga) hello, team! i am usually a notoriously slow reader but i found that TT gives me quite a reading motivation so i look forward to read like a maniac (:

i work full time but i can be on GR a lot even though i just lurk since i'm shy 👀 i'm currently based in Singapore so fortunately i'll be seeing some of you when i'm online (:

message 23: by Tammie (last edited Sep 19, 2019 08:46PM) (new)

Tammie | 4179 comments Em...I love those eyes! They seem 3D...so cool!

It's great hearing everyone's stories...I'm so excited to have such a diverse team! I hope you all will dig right in...just have fun!

We still need to hear from 4 team members...but still plenty of time.

I'll throw a couple of discussion questions out there just to allow us to get to know each other...let's start out with what we have most in common...books

Share your favorite genre and or author, and recommend a book to the group!

message 24: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4179 comments I love romantic suspense...I prefer the stand alone for this genre. My most recent recommendation is Shelter in Place by Nora Roberts by Nora Roberts. I know some of you are thinking she's 'old school' but this book is reallllly good!
Of the non-romantic variety...I absolutely loved Jodi Picoult's book Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult . It's so good...required reading!

message 25: by megan (new)

megan | 1477 comments So I thought I had posted this yesterday, but I forgot to click Post when I was forced to reboot.
Oh well.

I’m Megan. I’m one of the teams co-captains. I’ve participated in a hand full of TT challenges in the past. The hunt for a book that meets all the obscure requirements is my favorite part of any reading challenge.
I too am a dog mom - a boxer that will be turning 11 next month.
I work in the aerospace industry. Other than reading, I like hiking, golfing, and buying plane tickets. I’m a fifth generation Cincinnati Reds fan. And live in the city with the most roundabouts in North America.
Happy reading!

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 1397 comments HI all, I am your other co-captain, Nikk.

I am also located in Australia, in Sydney, where I live with my partner, seven year old daughter, one dog named katie and two cats named Jasper and Charlie.

This is my 3rd or 4th tower teams I think and I am looking forward to it as tower teams is one of my favourite challenges.

I tend to read a lot of urban fantasy, cozy mysteries and crime or mystery novels and romance of both all types particularly paranormal romance though i also don't mind contemporary or historical romance

Tammie, I actually have Shelter in place out from the library at the moment so will probably read it at some stage in the next few weeks.

Mary Hangen | 93 comments Hello all!! I'm Mary and this is my first time doing TT. However, I did a challenge earlier this year with another group and found that I rather enjoy having motivation to read, so I am super excited.

I am from Pensacola, FL and work as an EMR Specialist so I sit on a computer all day (audiobooks are my best friends while at work)! My husband and I apparently like chaos, so we have two kids (4 & 2), 4 dogs, 2 cats and a fish! :) Plus, something cool about me is that I have a library in my house (roughly 2000 books) and just keep buying more.....I may have a slight problem! :)

So excited to do this with y'all and excited to gain some more GR friends.

Right now my favorite author is Pippa Grant (romance author). Her books crack me up and she tends to break fourth wall a bit, so if that is something you enjoy I HIGHLY recommend her books. She just released a new series; however, I am waiting until after Oct 7th to start them ;)

Also, if you like thrillers I just finished three of them; however, It Ends with Her is SUPER good and will keep you on the edge of your seat. :)

message 29: by Annie (new)

Annie K. Mary, I am already jealous (or should I say envious) of your library. :)

My favorite genres are probably historical fiction, fantasy and romance. I mostly read YA.

I don't really have a favorite author - too many to choose from - but a book that I'd recommend is Illuminae by Amie Kaufman (really that whole series). It's different from a lot of other books, as it's told through documents, but it was soooo good!

Tammie | 4179 comments ~~Ambi~~ wrote: "Can we read graphic novels for this challenge?"

Graphic novels are a 'no'...sorry. See rules...all the do's and don'ts are outlined there.

If you haven't checked out the links...At the very top of this thread are all the links to rules, lists etc.
/topic/show/...
We already have a spread sheet too. Nikk is currently working on a planning sheet where we'll add our finished books...if anyone isn't comfortable with Google Spreadsheet or is uncomfortable with this task, we can enter for you...but this is a huge pain...so I'm hoping everyone will at least give it a try. More to come on this once Nikk is finished...might be a week or so.

Let's discuss any confusing rules. I think this round of TT's is less complicated than past ones...or am I just benefiting from doing this a few times? :z

Keep those funny books coming!

No worries...best to ask so we don't waste time reading something that doesn't work.

I've started stock piling 'color' covers and books I want to read. There's a sharing thread if you want to share or pick up suggestions. /topic/show/...
Remember everyone...only books that have been started after the official start count.

megan | 1477 comments I have the universal NBRC Goals FAQ spreadsheet if we need it.

Tammie | 4179 comments sounds great

message 41: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 615 comments So what's our strategy? :D

message 42: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4179 comments I'm totally open to what the team wants to do.
Points can be maximized by reading more pages. There are ranges...for max points it 800+ pages...but that will limit the number of books read.

I'll suggest shooting for SIN BINGO as much as possible and at the same time maximizing the amount of books we read without reading more than 46 books in a week...we are penalized if we go over.

If as many team members can read BOM books...those are unrestricted points. I usually try to read at least a few of these during a challenge...but I'm a big believer in only reading what I'll like too...so I'll suggest everyone check out the BOM choices and reserve them from your library now as both are fairly popular...my library has a wait list for Wilder Girls. I've signed up for DQs for that one as well...if we write DQ's there is even more bonus points.

Thoughts?

message 43: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 615 comments Should we make a list of books that fall under SIN BINGO?

message 44: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4179 comments ~~Ambi~~ wrote: "Should we make a list of books that fall under SIN BINGO?"

That's a good idea...I get most of my books from the library or KU...so I usually plan out about a month ahead...plus I'm totally addicted to my 'word hunt' challenges so I tend to read what works for those.

We have just over 2 weeks before we start reading for this challenge...we can use this time to discuss and plan what will work best for our team...if you all want to start a post that tracks your own book plan, I'm totally fine with that. Let's all discuss...

message 45: by Tina (new)

Tina ❣ (nutrinut) | 1962 comments I haven't had much luck with BOM this year. The books that win, I haven't been able to get a copy of.

Maybe for November/December, we can choose a book that majority of us have or can get, nominate it, vote for it and then read for it?

There's also the backroom we can coordinate for.

message 46: by Tina (new)

Tina ❣ (nutrinut) | 1962 comments Maybe we can have a list of possible books on the spreadsheet? It might be useful for Envy, Lust, Gluttony... ?

message 47: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 615 comments I have ordered Wilder Girls. It would be here by the start of October for sure. :D

message 48: by Ambi (new)

Ambi | 615 comments Would we get extra points if our books can be out under any two category? For example, we read a book that is Purple and Contemporary so we get extra points from Vanity? Or can we only try to get Sin Bingo?

message 49: by Tammie (last edited Sep 22, 2019 07:02AM) (new)

Good question.
Short answer, we don't earn extra for 2 categories :(

Each book we read will earn points for number of pages.
Next we will put our book under one of the 7 sins...we have to pick which of the three categories it works for (color, genre, description). Only if it works for all three categories can we earn the extra points that go with SIN BINGO.

I personally have post #7 almost committed to memory looking for books.

Tina this is a great idea...let's start thinking about that now. Nominations will be coming up soon...we should find a book that works for SIN BINGO...maybe get a few other teams to help with the nom...
