Hi Danielle, yes this book counts for the challenge. You will need to mark as read and add to your shelf:) Yeah!!

Hi Marla , could you please add this to your toadstools shelf when you get a chance?

We have noticed the huge page difference between the several editions for The Lies of Locke Lamora.

The word count is 192,918 so dividing by 250 words per page gives us 771 pages.

Therefore, for Tower Team purposes, we're going to state that the official ruling of this book is 90 points.

When marking your books as read, please choose an edition that has between 751 and 900 pages.

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments How are you all coming along with your reading?

The challenge has already helped me get out of my slump. I went from reading only occasionally to staying up until early morning just to get more reading time in. I love it. I've missed reading so much.

Now if only I can keep up on all my buddy reads :D.

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments I finished Nest by Esther Ehrlich by Esther Ehrlich last night/this morning. It was pretty amazing and I just couldn't put it down. I stayed up until 2am :).

I love that gif! I was wondering if you are swamped with your buddy reads! I keep thinking that you'll be joining more....I have Nest on my holds on the Overdrive, thank you for the recommendation! I am up next!

✿~¶Ù²¹²Ô¾±±ð±ô±ô±ð´Ê✿ (dmh1) | 5551 comments Glad a good book is getting you over your slump and back into reading, Amanda. I'd be so lost without a book on the go.

Reading going ok. I've just finished my first buddy read Mortal Danger (World of the Lupi, #2) by Eileen Wilks . It was enjoyable. I read the first book over 2 years ago, so was good to get back to this series. Hoping it won't take me 2 years to get to the 3rd book.

I'm still behind on The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch , but hopefully over the next few days I can make some progress.

So far I'm resisting. It's really difficult not to join more, especially when people are reading books on my tbr.

I'm still a little behind, too. I have to catch up fast because I'm writing questions on the 12th.

It's been a couple of years since I've read this one. I had forgotten a lot of it.

Amanda , any advice for questions? I haven't done them before. I am doing them for the next BOM Crossing Places!

message 265: by Laura (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Quite happy tomorrow is the holiday and after a service I have the rest of the day to read ( lol.. and maybe clean!!)

message 266: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments Let's see...
I find it helpful to keep a piece of paper beside me when I read the section so I can jot down notes about good questions to ask.

I'd say focus on asking questions about the sections you enjoyed reading or were interested in. A lot of other people probably felt the same way and it generates more discussion :).

Questions can be about anything from the writing style to what they think will happen next, or similarities between the book and mythology or real life. Some people get pretty creative, and some stick to the basics.

Just have fun with it :). If you need ideas, sometimes it helps to read through past BOMs of books that you've read and read the discussion questions.

Laura | 9707 comments another round of voting !!! One of the books I wrote in for, was a nominee!! Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult was so good!!!!It was so hard choosing between it and Big Little Lies as I rated them both 5*

did everyone vote yet?

message 269: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments I haven't read very many of the nominees.
I voted for:
Prince of Fools (The Red Queen’s War, #1) by Mark Lawrence Half Bad (The Half Bad Trilogy, #1) by Sally Green The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson

Wow! Four children and life on top of that, I would say that you are being smart in just tackling one book at a time. Reading is suppose to be fun, which I keep reining myself in. I have four books going right now, wheweee, a bit much.

message 272: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments I finished Lord of Scoundrels (Scoundrels, #3) by Loretta Chase . It was pretty good. I usually have a very hard time liking heroines in romance but I sort of liked Jessica.
This is why I can't read too much romance at a time. Something about the headstrong, I-can-do-what-I-want heroines in romance really rub me the wrong way.

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments FINALLY finished a book! It was taking me forever to get through this one!

The Innocent Mage: 642 pp. 70 pts

I think there's another thread that I'm supposed to post that to as well, but my poor brain can't remember where...can someone point me in the right direction?

Also, I just had my major event at work (it went awesome!) and am less crazy busy now, so I'll go through the buddy reads and pick a few to participate in! Right now though, I feel like this:

@Laura, I added my book to my shelf and did you read Russian Roulette, the #10 Alex Rider? It wasn't what I expected, but I did enjoy it.

I am already behind on my first buddy read, but I have 2 audiobooks in progress, so I have to finish one, so I can start my buddy read.

I'm so glad the event is over, even though it went really well. I'm so tired lol. Organizing a career fair involved way more lifting of heavy things than I anticipated! I thought the kitty gif perfectly summarized how I felt after all the picking things up and putting them down I did all day lol.

I was super underwhelmed by the Innocent Mage, and really didn't like the ending at all. (view spoiler)

Same here. I was bored the entire way through and then the ending was frustrating. I didn't even bother picking up the next book.
I was just looking at my rating and wondering why I gave it three stars. Maybe I was feeling particularly kind that day :).

Margaret (everlastinggrace) How is everyone's reading going? I am enjoying my two buddy reads of which one of them is a re-read Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky funny how it seems to flow better the second time around, the first time I read it I struggled over the Russian names. I loved it then and now my love meter has blown the top! lol anyhow, I am getting a new bookcase on Friday and I have been busy moving my books out of my old bookcase. I have been also frantically looking for two of my Wendel Berry books of which I cannot find! ugh!

I have put one book aside for now so that I can concentrate on these two current BRs....so that is what is happening on my end of the world. :)

hi Margaret, and everyone else :)
I am reading this month's BOM Crossing Places and another Walking Dead book. I am hooked on the show!

message 293: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments I just finished The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch , which was just as good as I had remembered it.

I like Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky so far (though this drunk guy is getting on my nerves). lol I love the audio.

I have a few other buddy reads that I need to be reading more and I'm still waiting on a few books from my library.

I joined several more buddy reads but I forgot to add them to my buddy read list...so now I have to retrace my steps and figure out which ones I joined. :D

Margaret, I can't believe that I LOVE the show! It is not something that would normally appeal to me but I started watching it with my teenager son and I am hooked! My favorite character is Darryl!! Who is yours?

The books are quite a bit different than the show. I am reading them out of order as my library only has two of them. There is a character named Lily who features prominently in the books. She takes over after the governor is killed. My guess is that the show is different because it has to be tv appropriate. In the book he violently rapes Michion, cuts off Rick's hand and I haven't heard of Darryl yet. Yet I will keep reading them :)

Did you hear they they're going to be making a companion/spin-off series next year? I guess it will show fans what is going on in the rest of the world.
