I know it will be divisive, but my immediate favorite prompt is "The first book you touch on a shelf with your eyes closed." That just sounds fun to me!

Some of the American site is just blocked in the EU (started happening after GDPR). Fortunately they haven't blocked the printable PDF file.

I'm confused. It says there are 10 advanced prompts, but I'm only counting 9.

This list of prompts is fantastic! I haven't been as impressed with the lists of other challenges but I am totally in for this!

The list was just updated to include the missing prompt of a book set in the 1920's.

I've been taking a break from all social media including Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ groups, but I had to pop back in for the new list. :-)

I'm really torn on whether to try to do the 2020 challenge because we're doing a temporary move to a tiny little town with a much smaller library system, and I'm only taking one box of books with me... but on the other hand, there are some really fun prompts here, and I'm wondering how many of these I could do just with kindle books I already own. That could be a fun extra challenge anyway.

I am so glad they added this prompt. I was really disappointed at first because I felt sure this would be a prompt when I saw there would be a "20" theme.

I'm really looking forward to a lot of these! The only ones I'm not thrilled about are "a western" and a book from a huge series. But I have faith that y'all will help me find good choices in those. There have to be things that count as western but are different from the traditional style, right?

I'm happy with all of the 20s-related ones too. Excited to start building my list!

I’m almost a bit disappointed that it’s out. I was enjoying the slow drip approach of one prompt a day. At first glance there will be several categories where my TBR has nothing to offer.

I really, really like this list! There are a few prompts I'm a little bit meh about, but it's more indifference than dislike, and I think that could change when I see some suggestions from the group. I LOVE the 20s theme for the advanced prompts. Maybe it's just my taste in books, but those look easier than some of the regular prompts.

Lauren, I'm going to read a Walt Longmire book. They're modern Westerns. I loved the TV show. Someone may have already suggested that in the thread, but I'll head over there now.

The numbers on the list are different from the numbers in the discussion threads for many of the prompts after 14 - which is correct?

YAY!!! Time for me to finally stop lurking and start actually being part of this group! I'm so excited to try this challenge!

I love the idea of trying to do it with books you already have and if that doesn't work maybe you could ask for a gift library membership to one of the public library systems with a larger catalog?

Sorry this might be me nitpicking, but I was getting confused while trying to search the discussion topics. On the list they are numbered one way, then on the discussion topics they are numbered a different way.

Example:
Off list: 25. A book with only words on the cover, no images or graphics
Discussion topic: 25 - A book with "gold", "silver" or "bronze" in the title

@crystal - we had this issue last year too and I think it came down to how people were reading the list from Popsugar. The order posted on the threads was based off the Popsugar printable PDF, and taking the prompts in columns (i.e. first page-left column, first page-right column, second page-left column, second page-right column). You could go left to right across the page, but seeing as they were listed in columns that seemed to be the most logical to me. Sorry if that caused confusion!

Heads up, on the individual discussion topics, there is no prompt listed for #22 and there are two different topics listed for #35.

That’s my fault. I wanted to see if I could edit the titles to match the list, so I just randomly chose one.

I just have to say, I am super excited for 2020’s list. 2019 did not excite me and I definitely fell off partway through, but this year has some really fabulous prompts. And the themed Advanced list is a great idea.

Is anyone starting the challenge now, since it is out?

I'm going to start on Christmas Eve. My mother and I exchange books on Christmas Eve and read all evening. I almost always finish the book she gives me that night. I haven't done this before, but every year she gets me a book I want to read for the challenge and then can't count because it's not January. It's very frustrating! So I've decided to start a little early this year. The tradition makes it feel like a nice way to start the challenge.

I started 2020 early with the book about a book club prompt.

I will start the 2020 challenge as soon as I finish the 2019 challenge (almost there, 3 books to go and I'm halfway through all of them).

I'm going to start it this month (I was going to say some time in December then remembered that it is December) but don't want to count any books I started in November which is all I'm reading at the moment. But I have decided to only count books that I finish in 2020, so if I choose one and finish it too soon, too bad for me ;)! I have one or two longer ones coming from the library that I'll have no problem making last since at least one of them isn't going to be one I will want to race through based on the first two in the trilogy.

You can start whenever you want! It's YOUR challenge :) Some people start right away, some start books in late December but only count ones that are finished in January (that's what I do) and some will wait until January to start any books for the challenge.

I have never done this challenge before and am excited to try in 2020! Can a book count for more then one topic? Or is it a separate book for each topic? Thanks for your help! Excited to read with all of you!

You can do it any way you want - it's your challenge. It often depends on how many books you read in a year. If you can easily read 40 or 50 books, then you might want to do one book per prompt. Many others use one book for several prompts. Whatever is fun and challenging for you.

I am looking forward to 2020 and actually completing all 50 prompts this year. Every year I have been getting closer and this is the year to knock it out!!

I've never actually tried to read books based on reading prompts. looks fun and a good way to get into books when I can't choose what to read next.
