I totally agree, the book was very dark. I definitely liked the book though and it was well written even though it was simple language.
You've read all three books, correct? While I thought the first book was fascinating to read, I was bothered by the simplistic writing. Was this an issue for you, too, or did the compelling story override the weak writing? Did you find that the writing got better in the sequels?

Yes, read all of the books, I found that they were very interesting. Even though it was written with simplistic words I thought that the story did override the weak writing. The writing was better in the third book but simplistic in the first two.

A Child Called it by Dave Pelzer talks about a young child’s abusive life and the things that he overcame while being brutally beaten by his mother on the daily. His abuse consisted of being beaten, emotionally tortured, starved, forced to wear the same clothes, and separated from the life of his family, being treated as a servant or pet. These were just some of the many ways his mother would humiliate him to his family and the public. David used courage and motivation to get himself out of his rough situation and even looked at the bright side. But, despite the torture he was put through, in the sequels it speaks of how he overcame his rough start to life and how he turned it around to become an amazing man, after copious amounts of abuse and traveling around many different foster homes during his childhood.
This book was written with simple language and was quite an easy read, but it changed my perspectives on life. Dave’s story was written with so much emotion and the series has become one of my all time favorites. There was always something going on, even though most of it was tragic, and was written with great description that made me want to keep reading. David, an abused child was described in a way to make him seem so small and naive, how the bad things kept happening to him made all the more effect on the feelings I had towards him and his mother. This book was amazing and life changing, seeing abuse in the perspective of a small child who was targeted, went right to my heart and I found myself multiple times close to tears over these horrible instances would occur. I would one hundred percent recommend this book to everyone because it will really open your eyes on the life of child abuse.
