It is hard to believe we are talking February and this year is leap year. Our authors will be from February: Patrick White to Zweig. Books 600 pages and past 2 years are excluded from current voting.

Voting: voting is open from the 15 to the 23. I will announce the winner of the popular and randomizer on the 24. Everyone gets 1 free vote. You can use an additional 4 points if you have participation points to use. You can vote for 1 or 5 books depending on number of participation points and how you wish to distribute those. Feel free to try to get people to join you in trying to get your book to be the winner. Send a PM to the bookshelf personality with your votes. You can send them to me also. Just saying what you want here in the topic will not get your vote counted.

Amanda Dawn | 1660 comments So I've read about half (21) of the 39 numbered here. Out of the ones I haven't read, I would be most interested in:

-L'Assommoir (librivox)
-Germinal (librivox)
-Nana (audible)
-Bete Humaine (audible)
-The years (audible)
-Electric kool aid acid test (audible)
-Look homeward angel (rb audio: will take off my tbr if selected)
-Tarka the Otter (audible)

Mostly because I can get those ones on audio.

I've only read 12 of these. I have Germinal and Nana on my tbr but I could swap them out if one got chosen. I also think Patrick White might be interesting. Amok and Chess Story are short.

The Tree of Man (white) is available at my library
I would also consider L'Assommoir
Native Son, Richard Wright I own

Daisey | 330 comments I'm probably most interested in Germinal or possibly another by Zola. I have not read any of his books yet, this one and a few others are available through my library, and a book by this author is on my list for my Reading Europe challenge for next year as well.

message 7: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1660 comments Cool Cool: seems like a bunch of people want to read Germinal so I'll vote for that then.

message 8: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2095 comments I would like to read a Zola as I have never read anything by him. In contrast, I am also interested in Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.

I read Electric Kool-Aid Acid test and found it interesting. I see that one, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as going together. Also the books by Ken Kesey as Electric Kool-Aid is about Ken Kesey.

I would vote for The tree of man, I’ve read all the Zola’s, I love his writing and would recommend Germinal, but I read that recently.

Winner of the popular vote is Germinal.

When I get the randomized book, will announce it. Or Book can announce it. Someone will. Randomizer chose Amok

Merry Christmas to those celebrating, happy holidays for those celebrating other holidays and best wishes for all.

message 17: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2095 comments Amok's 60 pages makes up for Germinal's 592 pages.
Happy Holidays everyone.

Gail (gailifer) | 2095 comments Ebooks: The 99 cent version of Amok is 48 pages, the $1.99 edition is 60 pages and there is one for $5.99 that is 183 pages? Do you think you get what you pay for or are all editions going to give you the full story?
Hmmmm

message 19: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1660 comments I don't know what's up with the other versions, but I feel like when I read it previously it was about 180 pages, and not <100.

I have a book called Amok and other stories. Probably they all are collection of different stories. Amok itself is about 50 pages long. I have also taken a look at the French edition called Amok (around 100 pages) and it is actually a collection of three stories.

message 22: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2095 comments Thank you Tatjana and all,
I am going for the 99 cent one and assume I am just getting Amok and no other stories. I will let everyone know.
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to all

message 23: by George P. (new)

George P. | 697 comments One of my public libraries has "The Collected Stories of Stefan Zweig" which includes Amok, so I'll get that and read some of the other stories as well. I liked his "Chess Story" a lot.
Amazon has Amok for kindle for $1 listed as 60 pages
.

I'll read Germinal as well, I've wanted to read a Zola for some time.
Now I have to push a couple of others down below War and Peace in my to-read list because I don't want to delay much longer on starting that.
