Char | 17381 comments I finished the first Dave Robicheaux novel by James Lee Burke:
The Neon Rain. These aren't horror, more like crime or crime noir, but I liked this one and I do believe I'm going to continue the series.

Aww, that's kind of a bummer.

I finished The Boatman's Daughter by Andy Davidson and I was amazed by it. Available everywhere tomorrow, I'm pretty sure this will be in my top ten of the year.

Char, I'm so glad to hear that, since I've got it on pre-order!

So far for 2020 I read The Witching Hour, by Anne Rice. I was so loving it until the end. I was disappointed in the last part, but I heard things are explained and straightened out in the next book, so I may give it a try.

The Witching Hour (Lives of the Mayfair Witches, #1) by Anne Rice

I didn't find anything really suspenseful about it but I liked the writing.

message 111: by Abhishek (new)

Abhishek (statisticsagainstthedarkarts) I just finished Dracul by Dacre Stoker and I was impressed! I loved how the story unraveled as a gothic mystery and how the authors intertwined Bram Stoker's life with his literary legacy. So good!

I'd suggest getting your cult fiction fix elsewhere...

message 114: by Greg (new)

Greg | 1680 comments Finished reading Nicholas Meyer's Sherlock Holmes pastiche, The Seven-Percent Solution: Being a Reprint from the Reminiscences of John H. Watson, MD. I enjoyed it well enough, partly as a change of genre form my usual fare, but I didn't think it was spectacular! However, I'm happy to have finally read a book that I bought secondhand when I was still a kid. That must be one of the books that had the longest TBR shelf-life for me.

I tend to give up on long running series like this but this is one of the few I have continued reading.

You've been busy, Marie!

I finished [book:Velocities: Stories|48143727] by Kathe Koja and I finished The Prisoners of Stewartville by Shannon Felton and enjoyed the hell out of both.

message 120: by Anna Kay (new)

Anna Kay (annakaybooks) | 21 comments Recently finished The Hungry Ones (The Messy Man #2) by Chris Sorensen and I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. Same with Clowns Vs. Spiders by Jeff Strand which felt too long (even though it's pretty short) because the writing was mediocre. Satirical and funny at first, but very much surface 'wit' (more so bland social commentary) and repetitive. Also finished The Beautiful (The Beautiful, #1) by Renée Ahdieh and was very pleasantly surprised. Very much a Gothic romance, with paranormal elements. A less graphic kin to Anne Rice.

I was sick with a cold for about a week and didn't feel like doing anything except reading, so I decided to spend my time wisely and that is what I did by reading some books! :)

It's in development:

Not sure if it's still going to pan out since any article on it is from 2018. I'd love to see it happen though.

Padders (randompadley) | -13 comments finished this one recently...

Twelve Nights at Rotter House by J.W. Ocker

a really cool little haunted house novel. Ending was a little predictable but had some fun horror movie references and tropes in there.

Erin (ems84) | 8938 comments Unbury Carol

I gave this 3 stars which I typically do if I find a story to be mediocre. However, I did like the idea of the book a lot, I think it just got bogged down with a lot of unnecessary story lines.

message 150: by Kelly B (new)

Kelly B (kellybey) | 630 comments I just finished The Whisper Man by Alex North .

I thought it was really good, and quite creepy. It's a thriller/mystery but there is a bit of paranormal tossed in as well.
