Welcome to the group, Tina! We're glad you found us, too, and hope you enjoy the discussions.
If I'm understanding your question correctly, you're wanting to know if audiobooks from one source can have different narrators on another source. Gayle is correct in that some of the classics are often recorded using different narrators over time. Jane Eyre is a great example where my library had multiple audio editions and they make a difference. You'll also find that some authors record an unabridged and an abridged version of their books (Harlan Coben and often Nora Roberts as examples) and will sometimes use different narrators for these editions. The key is understanding that they are separate editions. But, as a matter of routine, contemporary books rarely have different narrators across distribution/sales platforms for unabridged editions.
Hope this is helpful. And, listening to samples is highly recommended if you're unfamiliar with the narrator.

Hi Tina, The other answers reflect my knowledge and experience about the rerecording question. It's audiobooks from twenty years ago that sometimes get an audio facelift (voice lift?) Bonfire of the Vanities is one that comes to mind. In that instance, as with others, I think that these redos are more about technology than art.

Thank you for the response.

Jonetta, Since you're a Mod a have a few questions about protocol here.
Is there a topic thread about How to's or rules? It's been ages since I've been on the forum platform.
I'm mainly on my ipad and phone but the app doesn't have the ability to post the link (add book/author). has anyone found a workaround?
The app also doesn't show a full reply when that reply is the book icon link. It just shows that they responded but there's no content. I have to get on a browser, and my ipad automatically pushes to the app version. Has anyone come across this?
Thanks for taking the time to respond
My suggestion...don’t use the app. Access ŷ through your browser.
You can change your mode to desktop for your iPad. I use my iPad and have used desktop mode for years. Just go to your menu for the option.
We don’t have have any rules beyond those ŷ suggests...be respectful of others here on the site.

Big welcome, Kathy!
I’m listening to a lot more books these days, too, because of concentration issues. They’ve been my salvation.

TaffyKathy (love your screen name!) welcome! I have vision problems and audiobooks have been a wonderful thing in my life for the last few years. I'm so grateful technology is catching up to problems like vision and hearing; it makes life much more liveable for millions of people.

J.,
Its miraculous, isn't it? I went to grade school in the 1960s, and I recall listening to kids stumble and stammer as they attempted to read aloud, and that was something that came so easily to me. I just didn't understand how others could possibly not know how to read! I wonder if kids are still forced to read aloud and go to the blackboard to work out math problems? What a way to humiliate those kids who just can't do those things or who get 'stage fright'.
Of course as an adult and with more information available about learning disabilities, it all makes sense now. But those kids must have felt awful about themselves a great deal of the time. Now, with electronic dictation and things like Siri and audiobooks, life for people with visual impairments and learning disabilities or just different learning styles is an entirely different ballgame. Its wonderful!
And for me, as a lifelong and constant reader, I was on the verge of having to give up my favorite hobby when I discovered audiobooks. That would have devastated me, you have no idea. I now listen to several books a week, just as I had always read several books a week. I have become a fan of many excellent narrators, and discovered others I avoid like the plague. It has added a new dimension to my literary life, and I am grateful for audiobooks every day!

Thanks for sharing your experience, J. We’ve come a long way on so many fronts.

Tina,
If you’re referring to the 1,000,000 Minutes Listened Challenge, the instructions are in the first message. Here’s the link:
/topic/show/...
You can post with whatever frequency (I post every time I finish listening to a book). You don’t have to separate them by month. Some members do so but it’s not required.

I found this group last moth when I was looking for audio groups to follow for inspiration. And can't resist a group that has the same moderator as one of my favorite groups (hi Jonetta :))
I used to read a lot of paper books, but since Corona my commute is by car so I switched to audiobooks.

Thank you. For some reason the app didn't show the instructions. Just the picture of the headphones. I'll have to use my computer from now on. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks

Me too! I only use it to update my reading progress or a quick check to see series book order.

Welcome Melanie! Audiobooks are such a lifesaver in so many ways, right?

Welcome Stephanie! Don't forget to search the old posts for recs, there are tons of good ones in there.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE listening to Alpha males - Alphahole - sorry not sorry.
Love me some paranormal romance but my jam right now is motorcycle club romance. My favorite is Madeline Sheehan's Undeniable series.
Welcome, Victoria. Madeline Sheehan's books were one of the first biker romance series I got into. I really enjoy the books.

She's fantastic!! Joanna Wylde got me into MC books, but Madeline Sheehan sealed the deal, then Kim Jones made me cry and I have been hooked ever since

My name is Tatiana, and I am a romance audio book virgin LOL. I had a subscription to Audible, found all of my favorites, (the Harry Potter series still gets put on at work on speaker when we're bored; I work at a Testing Center, so there is a lot of down time and we can't have our phones out in the office), but I never ventured into the romance realm.
One of my goals for 2021 is to focus on more time in leisure activities and away from social media, so I figured audio books - reading in general - is an easy and healthy way to do so.
I prefer to stick to steamier romances (heat level definitely 4 or 5, although I'm genuinely curious as to how that translates to audio!), but I am open to trying new genres.
Non book related things about me: I will be 40 (!) in January, I have four dogs (Samoyeds), and my favorite show is Chicago Fire (I am definitely a Casey girl).
Thanks for listening to me ramble!

Held in the hand books are those requiring more concentration.
Read and listened to more books in 2020.

My name is Julia, and I’m a romance audiobook junkie. I used to listen to about five a year and “then Covid...I ended up listening to around 80 last year. I know, it’s a lot! I like to listen and knit, crochet, walk, drive...I think you get the picture. I’m hoping to get my vaccine soon and a bit of my life back, so I’m not sure I’ll have as much quiet time this year, but either way, I’m sure I’ll still be listening as much as possible.
Thanks for having me!
Welcome to the group, Julia! I can certainly understand how audiobooks have helped during this pandemic. My consumption grew, too.
Enjoy and I hope you’ll participate in some of our challenges and discussions.

So far this year I have ticked 96 books of my huge TBR and listened to over 60 audiobooks. Couldn’t ask for a better year! I am currently listening to R.L. Mathewson’s Pyte/Sentinel series. I am nearly finished with the 3rd book and am really liking the stories.
Unfortunately the rest of the books aren’t on Audible Plus, so I am stopping there for now. Not quite sure where to go next.

I agree that the narrator makes an enormous difference in enjoying a book, and it is a very subjective thing. I've dnf'd plenty of badly narrated books just because I couldn't stand the voice.
