Spoiler away in this discussion of The Book of Atrix Wolfe.

I haven't started rereading but I read this book several times and have a copy, so I'm ready for spoilery talk whenever.

I finished this a few days ago. I was confused by who was who during the prologue but found the rest of the book easy and enjoyable.

Oh, I loved it. It's much more straightforward than McKillip's other books I've read because the prologue tells you everything about what happened 20 years ago that the characters spend the rest of the book piecing together. I could enjoy all of McKillip's strange, magical writing without having to worry about missing something important.

I adore Talis Pelucir. He's precious.

I wanted to eat all of the food. Give me fancy pastries shaped like swans, please. I'd seen McKillip referenced as an author who writes great fantasy food, but hadn't seen that particular skill of hers on full display until now. There's some comedically terrible food in The Bell at Sealey Head, which is wildly entertaining to read about, but not the same.

My only complaint is that I'd have liked to spend more time with the characters at the mages' school. I was hoping Lares of Kardeth would be a major character, but we never saw her again after the first chapter.

Good point. So often with McKillip I DO miss something important!
