Chris, we've actually already read Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries twice, in June 2009, and in January 2010. However, I could only find one discussion thread:

I found this a landmark book. A scientist hesitates in areas such as this lest the author depart from the 'sacred' scientific method but this author has been published in the Lancet (on the same topic of NDEs). What is remarkable is that the author as a cardiologist has been able to weave mainstream science include quantum mechanics into the results and significance of the extensive clinical studies. The book shows 77 5 star reviews so I am not alone in my opinion. For me the highlight of the book is a story that featured on the BBC of Pamela Reynolds from Atlanta , Georgia because the experience occurred with all the medical staff and scientific instruments needed to report the incident with scientific rigor. I think the book is also great on the nature of consciousness - eg includes views from many great scientists including Nobel Prize winner John Eccles (from my native Australia!) who has published groundbreaking work on the difficult topic of evolution of consciousness.
