Gail (gailifer) | 2103 comments I have read 10 of these and would love to read Death and the Dervish but there are many other on this list I would be open to also.

message 3: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Haider (jessicahaider) | 124 comments I've read 9 of these. (White Teeth, On Beauty, Winter, The Accidental, Animal's People, The Jungle, The Stone Diaries, Frankenstein, Austerlitz)

I have Great Apes sitting unread on my shelf.

I will have to poke through the rest of these to see what appeals to me.

I've read 13 of these. Many authors in this list that I have not read anything by. I know I have these on my shelf to read; Sillitoe book, White Teeth and Rings of Saturn.

message 5: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments I have read 13, too.

message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1665 comments I've only read 14 of these, which is so much less than usual (so that's a plus choice wise). Out of the ones I haven't read, I'd be most interested in ones I know I can get on audio or ebook easily:

1) The Case of Comrade Tulayev (audible)
2) Rickshaw Boy (audible)
3) The Stone Diaries (bookscool)
4) The Magician of Lublin (audible)
5) The Accidental (bookscool)
6) There but for the (bookscool)
7) White teeth (audible)
8) On Beauty (bookscool)
9) The Adventures of Roderick Random (librivox)
10) Humphry Clinker (RB audio)
11) Vertigo (bookscool)
12) The Rings of Saturn (bookscool)
13) Austerlitz (bookscool)
14) Great Apes (audible)
15) Murder must advertise (audible)

I know it's a big list lol, but I'd be equally down for any of these depending on what other people want.

George P. | 697 comments Guess I'm a slacker, I've only read eight of them ;)
There are many I would like to read, in preference order:

Engineer of Human Souls (already have a copy I was planning to read soonish).
Either of the Singer novels, esp The Manor but also Magician of Lublin [used copies < $5].
The Nine Tailors (enjoyed Murder Must Advertise) [the ebook is avail to me].
Winter- [ebook is avail to me].
The Street of Crocodiles- [used copies < $5].
I'd like to read the Case of Comrade Tulayev but can't get it from the university library now and it costs >$10 used copies.

Diane | 2044 comments I have read 28 of these :(. Books mentioned by others that I am interested include:

Adventures of Roderick Random
The Engineer of Human Souls
Great Apes
The Manor
Vertigo
White Teeth

Others I am interested include:
The Monastery
An Obedient Father
Quo Vadis
Transit

The following are excluded from the Randomiser:

Requiem for a Dream (BOTM 2018)
Unless (BOTM 2018)
Frankenstein (BOTM at least twice)

I have read 14 of these, currently own another 4 that are sitting on my TBR shelves, and I just got another one drawn in my randomized list. Options, options...

message 12: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1665 comments Whelp, Bookscool just went down (ugh), so I'm going to limit my vote to audiobooks. Based on what other people have put up, I'll likely vote for either White Teeth or Great Apes.

message 13: by George P. (new)

George P. | 697 comments We have three people now saying they'd like to read White Teeth. I have it pretty far down in my TBR list but its in there. I see I can get the ebook or audio-ebook so I would be ok with this one.

There was a typo here, I'm pretty sure it should have said "through 4/23..."

Kristel (kristelh) | 5018 comments Mod
Yes, thanks for the catch, George. Voting is over on 4/23.

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) My choice would be The Monastery, 1820, 370 pages

I have it on Kindle.

I haven't read any of them as usual.

message 20: by Jessica-sim (last edited Apr 22, 2020 01:15AM) (new)

Jessica-sim I walked upstairs to "my library" and looked at which books out of this selection I have there unread... Turns out I have only one TBR still.

Also would love to read: Meša Selimović Death and the Dervish but I don't own a copy and since that is my criterium for this month... Nevil Shute will get my vote

message 21: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2103 comments I happen to own Death and the Dervish but that is not likely to win. I have read White Teeth and a Town Like Alice. However, I could vote for Great Apes or The Monastery.

Kristel (kristelh) | 5018 comments Mod
The popular vote went to White Teeth by Zadie Smith
The randomizer chose #11 Austerlitz by W.G. Sebald.

What will your June plans be?

message 23: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Robitaille | 1541 comments Mod
Not exactly how I wished it to pan out, but I should be able to source and read both.

message 24: by Diane (new)

Diane | 2044 comments I will be reading White Teeth as I have already read Austerlitz.

Kristel (kristelh) | 5018 comments Mod
I lost track of the day of the week and see that I called the vote a day early but really White Teeth was so far ahead it probably would not have made a difference. Voting was light with only 7 voting. Only 4 books receiving votes.

message 26: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1665 comments I haven't read either of these this time...nice. That hasn't happened since last year. I'll see if there's an easy way for me to get Austerlitz now that bookscool is down.

I could only find used copies through Better World Books. Did not find any audibles.

It's not unreasonably priced on Kobo as an ebook so I'm good: going to read both :)

In English? Where is that? Because I did notice audible had it except only in German.

Darn, i will need to return it. I do that every now and then. But there is an english one

I exchanged the German for an English edition (Audible) Austerlitz if anyone is interested in reading this as an audible. There is also a Nook and Kindle editions available. Used books are available.

message 35: by George P. (new)

George P. | 697 comments Austerlitz happens to be one of the 20% of this month's candidates that I have read, as an audiobook from the library about 10 years ago (it wasn't to my taste, though I think the writing was very articulate).
I will read White Teeth either in ebook or audio-ebook. Most of my goodreads friends & those I follow have rated it four or five stars so I look forward to it.

message 39: by Pip (new)

Pip | 1822 comments And for the first time I have read both, so I will use June to catch up with Journey to the West and some off list reading, maybe Hilary Mantel's trilogy. I am re-reading Wolf Hall before watching the television series.

I read Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies recently. Have not read the third book yet.
