Hi all! You might see me around as I have a tendency to use Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ to organize my personal graphic novel library (and a few books that I picked up from Libraries or read and ditched because I couldn't complete the series or didn't like them.)
Just want to say as a reminder that this group, although the goal is 100+ graphic novels read in a year, that the way I see it is more about promoting reading through the graphic medium so said number is just an example and never a hard goal. The important thing to remember is to read at your own pace and enjoy the magnitudes of worlds shown in various graphic novels that match any variety found in normal literature and movies.
Have a great day. :)

Hi Anusha! I am glad you have joined this happy little group.
This year we have been doing additional color challenges for covers but like the main challenge for the group the challenge is completely optional and only a tool to help people read (and hopefully enjoy) more graphic novels. Making a goal of 50 Panels is fine goal indeed and I wish you the best toward completing your challenge. :)
As for recommendations what are you looking for specifically out of curiosity? I can see you have a lot of books on your shelves and a lot of different interests but different people have different tolerance levels when dealing with fan service, violence, and themes for what they are looking for.
Maybe something like ?oku: The Inner Chambers, Volume 1 would be of interest being set in an alternative history of Japan where a plague targeting only men forces changes in the patriarchal society while some of the supposedly best men are hidden away from the red death within the Inner Chamber.

I read pretty much everything except horror and violence. Fan service does put me off, but it is okay if it isn't over the top. Thanks for recommending Ooku. It sounds interesting.
Welcome to our group!

Hi Gord. I hope you find all sorts of good recommendations based on our lists and have fun trying to make the 100 volume challenge in 2021. :)
Don't worry about rules about what can and cannot be counted toward your goal. The important thing is to have fun and perhaps someday you can inspire someone else to read a graphic novel outside of their own comfort zone.

I participate in a lot of reading challenges here on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ and the spread of rules when it comes down to comics/graphic novels is interesting. It ranges from a book is a book is book regardless of what it is to we accept everything but manga/comics. Most fall in the middle somewhere usually with higher page requirements than a normal novels. I've had to explain some interesting things to get books accepted or rules changed though.

You could add Light novels technically and artbook if you wanted to (for example Usagi Yojimbo: 35 Years of Covers.) At least one member reads online comics (like the Korean ones that are long so they are easy to read on a phone) and counts them. I suppose you could even count regular books without pictures but not being even remotely a graphic novel it might as well be a normal reading objective rather then a challenge. :)

Are you looking for any specific types or genres of graphic novels? On a lark I picked up some Power Pack Team Ups on Kindle (many don't remember or know of the Power Pack from Marvel comics I can imagine.)

As more North American stuff I'm a lot less familiar with things. I pretty much avoid Marvel/DC just because it's giant ball of inter connected knots that I have no idea how to even crack. I've stuck my toe in a little bit and found some interesting stuff. For instance I rather enjoyed the Ms. Marvel (2014-2015) #1 run. I've tried She-Hulk, Volume 1: Single Green Female and that wasn't bad either. I'm currently also reading The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Vol. 1: Squirrel Power. My biggest problem with them is the feeling that I need to read about a dozen other things outside of that run of comics to have any idea what is going on.
Outside of Marvel/DC I've enjoyed things like Lumberjanes, I Hate Fairyland, Vol. 1: Madly Ever After, Something is Killing the Children, Vol. 1, Hack/Slash Omnibus Volume 1
Well heck we are book kindred with Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ saying our tastes are 95% similar for the books we have both rated. However Shaman King is a bit of a sore subject toward the end of the series for me and I am hopeful the new stuff by Kodansha will remedy the rush ending a bit.
Generally I don't read Marvel or DC with some exceptions as well with having lived through a few retcons in my day and not having the time or energy to find how edgy modern heroes have become. I do recall the comic Squirrel Girl defeated Galactus though. :)
Have you tried 20th Century Boys: The Perfect Edition, Vol. 1 or Naoki Urasawa's Monster, Volume 1yet? These are series I like to advise for people that want something a bit different than the norm. :)

No worries. As Barbossa might say paraphrased "The goal is more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules.
Set your own goals, pick up a challenge or two if you want them, and have fun as you keep track of your progress throughout the year.
Thanks for joining and perhaps through what you read some of us will be able to discover new graphic novels we can enjoy as well. :)

I hope all of you are doing well.
I think I used to be part of this group years ago with a different account and really enjoyed it. I¡¯m trying to get back to reading after hardly being able to read anything at all for years due to OCD and severe exhaustion. I still suffer with these things and I often lose heart when I try to read, but I¡¯m hoping joining this group and challenge can help me a little¡even though I almost definitely will fail the challenge.
Hi there Xephion.
Although the name of the group tends to include 100 titles before the end of the year it is not a rule carved into adamantium. The important thing is to enjoy the world of graphic novels while offering yourself a little bit of a challenge. If you think you might fail maybe another number instead. Try to set a goal high enough to not be super easy but not so hard you get stressed about reading which would be a tragedy.
Also if you are into single volumes of comics you can add those in your challenge too. For me personally the book has to be at least 30 or so pages to count but that is just me. :)
Also if you want a different type of challenge we also have a monthly theme challenge for the group, a spinning wheel for cover color challenge, and the Scrabble Scramble which may be a bit harder.

Welcome Xephion, its good to have you and like Doc said... just enjoy yourself! personally I run the genre challenge and use his color wheel... just have fun! We added i believe comics into the mix- anything that is a Panel!

Hi Marissa! Welcome, hope you have fun with the challenge!
If you want some extra fun, check out the monthly group challenges. They are voluntary and don't need to be done every month (at least I didn't most years lol,) but they're a fun bonus for possibly reading something you don't usually. And if reading 100 volumes seems daunting after conquering a slump, the monthly challenges can be a nice helper to the 100 goal too.
