While I don't know whether guardian angels are lowly or not, I agree with Jill that Martin doesn't seem to be Tesse's guardian angel. As to what my guardian angel is like? I should think tireless, trying to remind me of the same things over and over and over . . .

In fact, he is. But I won't say more, for I'd be advancing information :-)

An angel's love for God is perfect, so I would expect him as a spiritual being to be more remote emotionally but at the same time his love for God would permeate everything. We get to see Martin's obedience to God, but we really don't see how this obedience flows from his perfect love for God.
I must confess that until I read Jane Lebak's novels, I hadn't paid much attention to my guardian angel. However, after reading several of her novels that display a close relation between a human character and their guardians, my interest in my own guardian angel has increased. Sometimes, I even talk to him. (He hasn't answered yet directly :-) The novel that made me wish to increase my own relation was Honest And For True.
Thank you, Jane, for increasing my attention in this matter. I may never see my guardian angel in this life, as your characters do, but I'm eager to meet him when I arrive in the other.

In the chaplet to St. Michael the Archangel the different choirs of angels are recited in descending order. Archangels and (Guardian) Angels are the last two.

If guardian angels are appointed by God, it's probably more accurate to say you tried to fire him once. Actually firing him would seem to be above your pay grade. :-)

Which short story was this, and by which author?
