The nominations thread for the April Classics Read is now open, please suggest your book choices below.

Please note there will be no pre and post-1900 rule from now on. Any classic book will count.

All books need to be seconded by someone else in order to get to the voting stage.

Cold Comfort Farm automatically goes forward (yet again) to the poll as it was runner-up last time, and does not need to be nominated or seconded.

This thread will remain open until 12th May and then will be closed for voting.

Nominated:
The Making of a Marchioness

Nominated and Seconded:
Cold Comfort Farm
A Bend in the River
We
The Odd Women

It's the book George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four was based on

You can read it free on the Serial Reader app - in 23 short episodes.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 274 comments Actually A Bend in the River isn't a classic as it wasn't written until 1979. A classic should be at least 50 years old.

yeah, pretty much! In 9 years we could do that one as a classic, or someone can suggest it in another (non-classic) thread

A modern classic would be a book written after World War I, and probably after World War II, but still at least 50 years old. Why? Because those cataclysmic events shifted the way the world sees itself in irreversible ways.

I'll second The Odd Women. Just read it and it is very good indeed. Victoriana much more real. Would be interesting to hear what others think.
