Oh, you had an usual idea for the "non-human book"! I liked the story (but I don't remember it).
I'm happy there are readers who will follow Peter Pan's story, I hope you'll enjoy it :)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments Is the book Practical Magic the one that the film was based on?

message 4: by Arya (last edited Jan 01, 2015 05:14AM) (new)

Arya | 4 comments Thank you Zaz! :) It's a book from my childhood, it will be great to read it again! Even though I don't think I will be following the week system.
Where do you find the books? For example I have been trying to find "monster Love" at the library and online, but I had no luck whatsoever...
I have never read Peter Pan, I'm looking forward to it!
Cait, I didn't even know there was a movie! XD
But yes, I just looked into it and it seems like it was based on that book!
Do you have any suggestion for the memoir, the book with bad reviews (???) and the one set in Christmas?

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments I read the play of Peter Pan for a children's literature course last year and I really enjoyed it. It was written as a play but the stage directions read almost like prose, as though they were meant to be read by a narrator because they had little jokes and references to things that the audience wouldn't be able to see on stage. :-)

I love the film of Practical Magic, I remember seeing it when I was twelve and I thought it said it was based on a book. I'm going to have to track that down. If I can find a copy I might have to make that my magic book too!

For the memoir, are there any actors, musicians, politicians, etc. that you're interested in? You might find something that they've written about their lives. I'm thinking about rereading Cider With Rosie by Laurie Lee or The Endless Steppe: Growing Up in Siberia by Esther Hautzig (mainly because they're books I already own).

For a book with bad reviews I was just going to look at the free ebooks on Amazon and pick one with only one or two star reviews. I did find A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. ;-)

About finding the books: I read mostly in english, so it helps a lot. I read mainly ebooks now, so it helps more. Of course, sometimes I can't find the book I want (Fairytales for Wilde Girls I'm looking at you T_T) so I'm really disappointed, it's really hard to find the ones which aren't written by english/US writers!

The book with bad reviews is a hard one. I want one which is so bad that I'll laugh all along, I don't want one which is boring. I'll see what the others will decide to read and maybe I'll find something with less than 200 pages.
For Christmas, I'll do the same, but I've an escape plan with Hogfather by Pratchett. I already read it, so I want to find something else.
For the memoir, I'll read the book about Steve Jobs :)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments Half of my post above got eaten and cut out the List I was trying to link to. Now it looks like I'm saying A Christmas Carol gets bad reviews, hehe!

If you go to Listopia up the top there's a list called Worst Rated Books on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ which might help with the bad reviews one.

Arya | 4 comments Uhm, I think I'll just wait and see if anything pops up for the memoir!
I really can't think of anybody right now.
But the book with bad reviews... I really don't feel like wasting my time reading a bad or boring book! :/
Do you think that maybe I could just read a random book that I actually want to read and might enjoy?

I read the plot of the Practical magic movie, and for some reason it doesn't have a grip on me, maybe because the focus is mainly on the romance.

Zaz, I read them in english too, but I still can't find a few -.-
But let me know if you find a book "so bad is soooo good" under 200 pages!
I really could use a good laugh!
I'll keep Hogfather in mind, it sounds good, but I'll probably decide next Christmas! XD

I saw bad books with 500 pages, I'll never succeed to finish something like this. I'll tell you if I find a funny bad short book :)

Maybe you are aiming for books older than mine so it's more difficult to find them?

Arya | 4 comments Ah, thanks!! :)
Not really, I am afraid: Monster Love, the book I've been trying to find is pretty recent, I guess it's just not very popular. :/
Ah, I think I've found my memoir: Now I See You: A Memoir

I think I'll go for The Woods Are Dark as a book with bad reviews (there are not all bad, but the bad ones are really bad :p). The story seems pretty lame, as the title (warning: there is some intercourse, so it's not a read for everyone). I'm thinking about doing a "what happened in this chapter" / "what I'm expecting for the next one", to help me read this horror and to have fun writing silly things.

Johanna | 31 comments Your list is impressive! Lot of classics!
I don't know they was a book for virgin suicides maybe it's less weird that the movie ^^

Do you have english library? In France we have some of them with a lot of interesting books!
