You will find many great history books out there. I especially enjoyed The Clockwork Universe: Isaac Newton, the Royal Society, and the Birth of the Modern World and Mirage: Napoleon's Scientists and the Unveiling of Egypt. Good luck in 2015.

Thanks for taking time to suggest these books! I am a professor of American History at a local University, but since finishing my degree I've more or less stopped reading in my field. I'm feeling the need to get back into the thick of it, but I can still enjoy my fiction. Good luck to you iin the coming year!
