I was a similar sort of child when I was younger. There was one time when I was grounded and my dad's girlfriend realised that wasn't much of a punishment when I just sat in my room reading... which was what I was going to do anyway, hehe.
What're you studying?
What a bad punishment :D "Go to your room and read wonderful books full of great adventures". I need someone to punish me every day, it will help me to complete the challenge.
I'm studying ecology. It's really time to save the Earth, so I want to help a little :D

I hope reading is seen as 'cool' and positive now. It can really change the world!
I think the "go to the corner and read a book to calm yourself" is not a big problem with young children. It's a way to learn them they can find peace and calm with reading, which is important for me.
I've a lot more problems with the "read this book, it's a very important one (= boring classic) and stop reading silly stuff (= adventure, magic, etc)". Most adults don't like reading and prefer watching tv, I think we can blame school and close-minded parents for this.
When I baby-sit, the "if you continue, I won't read a book" is very efficient, even the TV can't win against books :D

I was that kind of child too. In school i preferred to be at library reading than in the playground with other kids. When i was in 5th grade i began to read a classic literature (thanks mom!) and when i told my teacher what i was reading, she told me to stop and it was useless to read it because i wouldn't understand and i not even would be able to finish the book. She basically crushed my passion for literature. My mom went to school and had a very ugly and long discussion with this teacher and the headmaster of the school, but it was too late. As a very young child it really crushed me. So i stopped reading for a while. But luckily i went back to reading a few years later.
Guys, did you see that teacher who everytime the class was noisy and chatting he wrote in the board the names of the dead characters of Game of Thrones? I think it was in France! That is a genius punishment hahaha!
Thanks TJ :)
It's nice to be there, as reader and moderator.
Luisa > wow, this is awful :(
When I was 10 years old, my teacher had the habit to give books to pupils who worked very well. As I was one of them, I liked to choose on her list. One day I picked up a book for younger kids than me and the teacher told me that I'd to read books for older kids and choose another one. It was disappointing because I never looked at the recommended age and decided what to read only because of the summary.
Now I'm a grown-up, I read lots of children books and enjoy them a lot, so I think this age thing is bullshit :p

Sometimes, I read regular books outloud and he enjoys that too. He also likes to point to the words and start singing his ABCs lol
Ok, no, I'm joking, it's one of the weird things you have to learn when you're writing in a foreign language.
My surname is Zaz, I'm 34 years old, I live in France and I'm currently student again. I've finished with the boring presentation part, lucky you!
I like to read since my childhood (I was the "no I don't want to go outside/come to eat, I'm currently in a book" type) and discovered an all new world when I started reading in english. There are some french authors I like, but there is more english stuff and translations are not the best way to discover all the writers' qualities.
Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ was an obvious choice for me, to keep track of my books and to wander to find new stories/authors.
I'm glad I saw the group on Popsugar and as it is a friendly one, I think it will fulfill all I want for this type of adventure. This reading challenge will help me read more and read out of my (currently dystopian) comfort zone.
Jessica asked me to become moderator assistant, I'm not sure you'll survive, but well, you have no choice, so you'll have to read all the silly things I want to say (sometimes in bad english, but I'm trying to improve my writing, so I hope nobody will loose his/her eyes reading me).
Feel free to send me some messages if you need something or have a question ;)
Good reads :)
