Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments Oh. My. God. Did I just totally miss the Pritkin discussion?

Jenni, don't think it's weird you love Pritkin. Almost everybody does. He is won-der-ful. I don't know why exactly. You hate him then he just grows on you and now you don't want to let go.
It's so funny to see that the Pritkin camp has more followers than the Mircea lovers as Mircea and Cassie have had way more 'play time' if you know what I mean. Chance does just a wonderful job of describing Cassie and Pritkin's reluctant attraction. It's very subtle but still very much there. And the anticipation is just so great! We want angry sex!

Laura: do read the series!

Arcadia: you're a dirty, dirty girl. Cool that you know Czech though (gotta give you that). ;)

Josie, thanks, I'll be checking both sites out!

I think I'll need to read more Sookie books to understand the Eric love...

I just checked your books and you've just read the first one--I'll read the Cassie series if you read the Sookie series. :)

If I say too much I'll ruin the fun & surprises, but trust me, it's worth it.

message 806: by Mel (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments Ok Laura! I think that's a fair trade. I'll read more of the Sookie books if you read the Cassie books AND Midnight's Daughter. Death's Mistress comes out in january so that's perfect. And I've missed Louis-Cesare (and his tongue) so that REALLY perfect!

Damn, is it January yet.

After you get the first Cassie book done, the rest is so funny that I got swept in. Will there be also any more Thomas or the short story that came out a while back is the end of it?
Getting Cassie and Dorina together could be fun to read too. Will the author go this route?

Can't wait.

OMG i agree..love talking about Pritkin! And the sexual tension is freaking KILLING ME! I thought that in Curse the Dawn they were FINALLY going to give in but I'm hoping that all this anticipation will lead up to, as you say it, "hot angry sex!"..
LOVE Pritkin! Can't wait for the next, am waiting on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next...

Also, to answer your question Precious Thomas is in the second but it has been a while since I re-read the other books but i don't think he's in the others...IDK but I def. know he's in the second

message 811: by Mel (last edited Oct 27, 2009 07:11AM) (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments Precious, Karen Chance has said that Tomas will definitely appear in the Cassie series. We expect he'll also appear in Death's Mistress (as Dory will be sent to South America). Can you imagine Tomas and (his official master) Louis-Cesare meeting up again?! Tension anyone?

Chance also said that a Dory and Cassie meet up will be inevitable. Woooooh, more tension! I'm sure somebody's going to be all bitchy and Mircea will be left cleaning up the mess, ehehehe.

Jenni, I'm right there on the edge of my seat with you. If you want to talk about the series, come join the "Who's your author" group. We have two threads about the series: the Karen Chance thread and the Curse the Dawn thread. Warning: we're quite fanatical/crazy and the threads are the biggest in the group (and not alwyas on topic but very entertaining indeed). :D

Jenni, concerning Thomas there is a novella in the The Mammoth Book of Vampire Roman that takes place after book 3 where I am led to believe that the Thomas storyline is dead finished.

And the suspense is killing me about the Cassie/Pritkin love affair. I keep trying to get them together in my head and the only way out i could think of is this:
cassie is always out of juice, always tired from the power drain....why can't they get a bracelet or something that store power for when she needs it?

You know with the dagger bracelet she has and the power drain from the circle tattoo from book 4. It would not be so far fetched.

It would be neat: Cassie could get extra protection form Bouvier from a lifeforce drain attack...she could get some action with Pritkin started...but like any good Cassie action it would dry out after foreplay...gahhh.

Ok that is just my fantasy talking...just time enough to get the dimples at the bottom of Pritkin'back description again.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 49 comments Mel wrote: "Precious, Karen Chance has said that Tomas will definitely appear in the Cassie series. We expect he'll also appear in Death's Mistress (as Dory will be sent to South America). Can you imagine Toma..."

Damn, I'm hopeless fan of the Karen Chance novels...maybe I should join the group too.

There must be a spell for infidelity so that Mircea does not find out or something. There could always be another 'emergency situation' like in book 4....get in fairy, shift in time. There MUST be a way around that little problem.

message 818: by Mel (last edited Oct 27, 2009 08:29AM) (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments I'm really curious as to how Chance will solve this problem. And how long she'll make the triangle last. She's planned 9 books in total but said she doesn't want to drag the relationship problems on for too long. Just as long as she doesn't kill Pritkin off it's fine by me :)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Hmm... I'm obviously going to have to break down and start reading the four Karen Chance books I own, as I'm obviously missing out. I did start Touch the Dark last year, but put it down for some reason and never picked it up again.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 49 comments DarkHeart wrote: " I did start Touch the Dark last year, but put it down for some reason and never picked it up again. "

I confess that the first book is filled with neverending description that are a bit long and my attention was diverted.

The second is easier to read because yuo are now familiar with the back in time/shift aspect. Cassie gets to 'interract' more also. If you have not read I do not want to give aways anything.

For sure it is none stop action after book one because Cassie is clueless about what she has been drawn into compared to the first book.

I recommend that you hang on for the first book and the rest of the serie just flows because the time travel aspect revisit the same events form different perspectives that give depth to the storyline.

ok, and impossible relationships are a tease but no cookie which makes me laugh from time to time.

message 821: by Mel (last edited Oct 27, 2009 08:40AM) (new)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments Oh DarkHeart, sister mine (I'm going to keep calling you that from now on). Break down: read them! Please! I love love love this series.
Touch the Dark has the First Book Syndrome. Honestly, if I hadn't read Midnight's Daughter first I wouldn't have continued with the series (MD was the 4th book in the Cassie Palmer world and you can see Chance has grown much as a writer). The first book, especially the first part is a bit chaotic, with a lot of info dump at the most inappropiate moments. It also will take around 60 pages to really get into the story. But the world Chance built is wonderful, the pace is high, the action is entertaining and there is so much humor.
Book #2 is much much better and #3 and #4 are wonderful.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments =) Alright, you guys have convinced me. Since I'm done with my monthly challenges (with the exception of my work commute audiobook), I will start Touch the Dark again as soon as I finish Predatory Game.

I'm looking for a good dragon serie too.

Any suggestion?

new_user | 1389 comments Hey, Precious, Keri Arthur, Shana Abe, Katie MacAlister, and Mary Janice Davidson all have dragon shifter series. I personally love Abe's Drakon series, but it's historical so it may not be your cup of tea. MacAlister and Davidson both have a great sense of humor, but Davidson's series is YA. I hope that narrows it down for you.

Being in Aust, it's difficult to get onto a lot of sites using my credit card. I primarily use the Sony Store. Shay uses a good one which had good prices. Let me send her a message. I think I'm going to start a topic too under general discussion of ebook sites and free ebooks. I saw some great novellas available for free this morning around. It'd be great if we could add the information in one central place.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I am crushing hard on the nook from B&N. I may finally cave and switch to Ebooks. Nichole(?) mentioned Fictionwise as a good source. And they have a rebate program for book recommendations.

On the Karen Chance gushing, I shall say ditto on all the loving comments and the Peer Pressure. Definite FBS going on, but fab once her world's set-up and she is free to let the craziness fly. Oodles of love for KC and her series.

As for my progress on the challenge...I hate work. Why can't I be independently wealthy, leaving me all day to read? Is that really too much to ask? Sigh.

Tara, congrats! I'm sad though: you'll need to descend now from BDB heaven... :(

Or just reread them. I discovered them right after Phury's book came out and proceeded to devour the series in a week and then read through them all again within a month. Of course I now have them all on audiobook as well and am currently enjoying LR - but then, I have a sickness. ;)

1. Orange: Ravenous by Sharon Ashwood (Quite decent.)
2. Red: Pure Dead Wicked by Debi Gliori
3. Brown: Vampires are Forever by Lynsay Sands (Least favorite of the series so far. Disliked the heroine immensely.)
4. Green: Down the Garden Path by Dorothy Cannell (Decent cozy mystery.)
5. Black: Witch Way to Murder by Shirley Damsgaard (Slow start, but picked up halfway through. Worth trying the next one.)
6. Yellow: Pure Dead Magic by Debi Gliori (Cute and inventive. The colors are so muted on this cover, the yellow font is all that stands out.)
7. Purple: Sleeping with the Devil by Vanessa Marlow
8. Pink: Soulless by Gail Carriger (Highly recommended!!)
9. Blue: The Accidental Vampire by Lynsay Sands (Funny.)

Tara | 596 comments Thanks Mel! It's the worst, I had to take a reading night off to recover!

I might re-read them since I'm keeping them all, but not for a while. Too many other things to read.

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments You know DarkHeart, you have three reviews of each BDB book. One is for the audiobooks, what's the difference between the other two? And sister mine (ehehe), if you're sick, what does that make me?

Oh Tara I bet you needed the night off to recover. Or dt ;)

Mel (mel_b) | 1188 comments Finished: Lover Enshrined (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #6) by J.R. Ward 5 stars, baby!

I actually wanted to give it 4,5 stars but since everyone seems to be hating Phury so much, I'm giving it 5. Pooh!

I loved this book right up till the last bit in which Ward got all Disney and sappy. Why does she always feel the need to do that?

I loved Phury. Overal this was a great book. Yes, the romance was in the backround and, eventhough I think Phury deserved a more elaborate romance story, it didn't bother me all that much. Cause there was a lot going on and I loved the other story lines. Gotta love Rehvenge, I like Lassiter already, I'm growing to love Xhex. Oh, oh... and I found my new favorite couple: Quinn/Blay all the way!

:)

Natalia, how did you like A Game of Thrones?

It's one of my fave series, but I am originally a fantasy fan who branched out to PNR/UF. Now just waiting for Martin to get around to finishing the 5th book, hopefully before I die.
