Our much-demanded second series readathon begins with Fablehaven by Brandon Mull
I've never read this before but I have definitely encountered it at least 3 times. I've tried to get into it in the past but it hasn't clicked for me and this time round I'm looking to change that!
The readathon continues with book 2 in July...

Before we start reading let's gauge the general reaction to this readathon...
Have you read any of the books before? Or anything similar or anything else written by Brandon Mull? Or is this the first time you're ever hearing about this book and series?

@Jessica I came across the books in 2018 when which is when I first shelved it on my TBR but then I tried reading it later in 2019 and dnf'ed it!
@Kostas I've heard of that series too it's on my TBR like many many books😂 Let's hope this series is even more enjoyable for you than that one!
@ASparkOfSyd Yay! The more the merrier!

@Drago You're clearly a big Brandon Mull fan!🙌🏻 You can totally reread it with us if you want to! A couple of people reread Lockwood & Co with us during that readathon.
@Stormborn same! You can reread it with us if you want to! Everyone is welcome! You can even just join in with the discussion without rereading it pop in every now and then and discuss the books whilst we read them each month...

@Ilsen I love how you're still trying with Lockwood😂 I would too but I need to read Percy Jackson for the quiz, still got a ton to write for CYOA and I don't have to read this book but it'll be nice to follow along this time.
@Elizabeth hopefully you do like it more this time round!

😂😂if this is a race then you definitely have to win! Also that reminds me I don’t think I’ve told my friend and recently she started reading Lockwood too! I NEED TO GO TELL HER THE GOOD NEWS IMMEDIATELY

I may... or may not... pirate... possibly... I cannot confirm nor deny this😬 The books we're reading lately (like Percy Jackson) I have physical copies for so that's why I have them ready to read so quickly. But also quite a few books we've read in the past I already had digital copies of because I'd either downloaded it before and thought I'd read it but didn't or have already read it before (like with the lockwood & co books and Fablehaven too because I tried reading it in 2019). Unfortunately libraries are not a thing that exist in this country and books are expensive so I have to make do with digital books. I always want to support authors but sometimes there is no way for me to do that. I'd honestly love love love to be able to read more physical books from a library but sadly that's not an option for me😭

What were your thoughts on it, Audrey? Did you enjoy it?

😱Can't wait to see what you think of it! I stiiiill have to read Percy Jackson so I think I'll probably read this book in the last 10 days of the month because I also have coursework essays to write😭 But can't wait to discuss it with you then!
Thanks! Really just want these essays to be over. I've been dragging them out since March!! Can I call you Syd? I'm lazy and typing ASparkOfSyd is a lot of effort😂
I think the character dynamics and dialogue are something I'm going to be surprised by because I always find when I reread a book that's really good in my memory there's some part of it that surprises me because it's not as good as I remember it to be... Starting it today officially (I know I've said that every day for the past 5 days😂 but this time I actually mean it) so we'll see soon!

Yeah my university year is technically supposed to be over but I applied for an extension for my essays (twice) so I'm still doing them. Only 8 more days and then year 1 is over! Then I'll be free to read Fablehaven and see if I like it or not😂
Oh no! What a shame! I've heard that sometimes books like that are better as an audiobook so maybe try that! Personally I can't stand audiobooks because I can read faster than I hear and I'd just be on edge the whole time trying to concentrate on the words or else I'll not pay attention.
And no I don't watch any booktubers! Youtube is uncharted territory for me. It actually comes back to that reading faster than hearing problem that means I can't sit through a 10 minute video of someone talking out their review I'd rather read it. I've never understood the appeal of youtubers and that makes me sound so old😂 I swear I'm not a grandma or something!

I think it took me a while to get used to the writing style, but I really enjoyed it. It's very creative.
I have also read the two Candy Shop War books (a third is promised), two Five Kingdoms books, and two Beyonders.
Brandon Mull is local to my area, so I've been able to see him a few times at signings and stuff.
Wow so you're a Brandon Mull expert then!! Also that's so cool that you've met him at all let alone multiple times!
I'm starting this tomorrow or the day after👏🏻 I'm determined to follow this readathon😂

How many people have read this book for our readathon? With so many new members it's hard for me to gauge how many people are following along! Respond with a little 🙌🏻 to show you've read book 1!!
Don't worry Dee, I've been here since before the group was even public (because I set it up😂) and I still have not read book 1🤦🏻♀️ It's on my July list of books that I made though so I MUST READ IT THIS MONTH!!!

That would definitely be an awesome escape from quarantine, that's for sure! Glad you're enjoying it so far Dee! I love a book with good plot twists👏🏻
