This book was a long time ago and I am kind of fuzzy about the details. It was about a dog that was actually an alien. She had conversatoins with her owner in his head (I think).

Also another book that involved a boy who had a pet shark who could fly out of water and he fed the shark Vitamin E tablets in Hamburger?

Found it! And once I found it, I still didn't remember the cover, but the description for this book matches yours, Scott -- and I DO completely remember the part about the hamburger. Anyway:

"The shark in the window", Illustrated by Laurel Schindelman. New York, Morrow, 1972. (apparently also called "the shark in Charlie's window," according to a review on Amazon).
