I loaded up a shelf with books that I could possibly use for my challenges, then used that shelf for my "random read". So, no matter which book is chosen, I can use it for at least one of my challenges.

I have leftovers nearly every month. I'm always way too ambitious when it comes to figuring out what books I'll read in a month.
