Kate S | 6459 comments Colson Whitehead was one of the presenters at the National Book Festival in 2009. Read one of Whitehead's books or any book linked on the Readers Also Enjoyed/See Similar Books section of any of his fiction or nonfiction. These are:

Fiction
John Henry Days
The Intuitionist
Apex Hides the Hurt
Sag Harbor
Zone One
The Underground Railroad
The Nickel Boys

Non-Fiction
The Colossus of New York
The Noble Hustle: Poker, Beef Jerky, and Death

Please post suggestions or comments about task 20.4 in this thread.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14111 comments From prior experience, we've learned the Readers Also Enjoyed/See Similar Books can be fluid. You would be well-advised to lock in any books you even remotely think you might want to read. All will be noted, though I probably won't acknowledge your posts.

Denise | 1802 comments I'd like to note three titles: Microserfs by Douglas Coupland and The Turmoil by Booth Tarkington from John Henry Days.

Up in the Old Hotel by Joseph Mitchell from The Colossus of New York

(I bought a copy of this years ago and really want to get to it. This looks like the right season-journalist author, not-a-novel, oldies, and jumbo, thus far. Not to mention that it just sounds so interesting.)

Rebekah (bekalynn) Well I know Washington Black had been a similar for The Underground Railroad. Now I can’t find it as similar 5o @ny of his books. So I came here and now I read it’s a fluid list!
It wouldn’t have been listed or locked in with RwS databases by any chance would it?

Not at this time, Rebekah. But that section *is* very fluid. Keep checking - and I'll try to remember to watch for it too.

message 25: by Rebekah (new)
