The Finkler Question, because I think I found that on my own shelves yesterday, and enjoyed another book by Howard Jacobson recently.

To Kill a Mockingbird, one of my favourite books and films.
Bleak House the only Dickens I have read, and a great tv series.
The Lightning Thief, because I am on the last 100 pages on the first in the Heroes of Olympus series after loving Percy Jackson.

Bea and Lauren, you are harder because I can't see anything I have read on your shelves !

John Adams, because I loved the mini series.
Half Broke Horses, because it looked interesting.

Thanks Bea. I have The Old Man and the Sea out to read already, so that one is a definite goer !

Now to clean up the duplicates (how much time do I spend cleaning up duplicates! ) - Tried "Find Duplicates" and nothing came up on that list, or my overall list :( VEry strange.

Thanks Lauren, I have both The Handmaid's Tale and Beloved put aside for a challenge at the moment, so either is a possibility :)

I love planning and have been waiting patiently (well, patiently for me) for Marie and Alex to post their picks for me.

This game starts on Sunday, so I will start with The Shadow of the Wind if I can get it from the library. Otherwise, I have Esau at home, so I can start with it.

thanks for pointing this out i forget to take them off the own and unread shelf but think i have sorted it now

I will start with Alice in Wonderland when do we have to have read by?

We have to complete the number of books we committed to by 3/31/15 - 2 months for reading.

I just checked The Shadow of the Wind out of the library today, so I am ready to start.

I have completed Alice in Wonderland it has to make you think that Lewis Carrol was on LSD or speed. The characters and the action paired with the fact that Alice only finds things a little strange and constantly goes withe the flow all make it a fabulous book

Haven't started yet. I have a couple of library books due in a few days. But it is next on my plan.

Trying to balance Reader's Pursuit with this. Will probably finish my RP book today, so will start The Old Man and the Sea tonight.

Have just seen Marie's selections, so I might try to slip The Midwich Cuckoos in as well. Must try to get some library books read also. Have a few out for Moving Mountains and Lost right now.

Read The Old Man and the Sea last nighty / this morning. Could kind of see what was going to happen, but was also kind of expecting something more as well (thinking of Life of Pi).

My husband told me not to bother with the film, and then came in whilst I was reading to say it had been on in the afternoon and would be on again at 3am. I didn't get up and watch it, already being halfway through the book and agreeing that it would not make a good film. Visually, perhaps, but not enough actual action or dialogue to really hold an audience.

Have started The Midwich Cuckoos, my daughter telling me the cover is very creepy. About 1/5 of the way through, so hoping to finish by Tuesday. Then it is back to Reader's Pursuit, and if I can knock over another couple of those I will come back and read one of Lauren's selections.

Wonder what has happened to Alex ?

Alex seems to have dropped out. I sent her a message prior to Feb 1 but haven't heard from her.

And I've finished The Midwich Cuckoos, so I've read my 2 books, but will try to read some more by the time the session is up.

4 stars, didn't want to put it down, but I've only found Wyndham disappointing once, and freaky children does seem to be his thing.

I am so glad you enjoyed the midwich cuckoos i thought it was really cleverly done

I have just finished In Movement There Is Peace

I really enjoyed it - I have read The Pilgrimage by Paul Coelho ably his journey on the campano de santiago. In movement - is utterly more readable and more likely to drag you in than the Coelho book. I loved the quotes and thoughts that began and ended each chapter. Although there is a great deal of religiosity in the book it does not make it a religious tale. There was lots that made me think of my own travels on the South west coastal Path in England where solitude and oneness with nature alter your perspectives on life. It is a very easy read that take me to the trail the authors follow

I'm terribly sorry. I don't want you to think that I've abandoned you, it's just that I've been busy. I am Languages teacher and thanks to God, I've got work, but time sometimes doesn't seem enough.
So far I've finished Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. It's beautiful and really moving. Loved it.
I'm working through Edge of Apocalypse by Tim LaHaye and Craig Parshall, very interesting approache to biblical prophecies.
And I'm about to get To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
I also recommen On love and other demons by Gabriel García Márquez

As well as reading, you need to go through everyone's lists and suggest the number of books they have picked, plus an extra one.

I only see To Kill A Mockingbird from the suggestions for you.

If you're not quite sure how the game works, let us know and we can go over it and see if we can make it make sense. :)

Alex, at the top of this thread is a listing of each of our names along with the shelf we want our picks to come from and the number of books we have each chosen to commit to read. You need to make a post of books you have chosen from each of our shelves. The number of book picks for each of us is the number we chose to read +1. So for me, you would choose 3 books.

Likewise, you need to be reading from the picks we made for you in the early posts. For this game, you only need to read 2 of those books between Feb 1 and March 31. Of the books you names, To Kill a Mockingbird was chosen as one of the picks for you so that book would count in this game. Before the end of March, you would need to read one of the other picks.

Starting my first book The Shadow of the Wind

EDIT 2/18/15: Finished the first book. My next read will be Djibouti.

Finished my second book Djibouti. I am done until the next round.

How is everyone else doing?

I've done my two, but am looking at trying to squeeze in 3 and 4 if possible, as I have them on other tasks.

The only problem is, I keep ordering more books from the library, which means the books that I own keep getting pushed back because, you know, no return date or fines one those ;)

i have finished my 3 by reading Lauren's suggestion of Pride and Prejudice i really loved this although it could be hard at times cutting through all the detail. Austen tells the archetypal romance with a hint of humour - i loved Mr Bennet

I have not done at all well this round *sigh*. Better luck next time.
