Hello readers!! This is a new topic just meant for one thing...
All About Me i.e., whosoever wants to introduce themselves properly can do so over here. Now, you may ask why this is necessary. So the answer can be summed up in following points:-
1. It's easy to find people with similar interests and with whom you may like to connect after knowing about themselves. This might be helpful in making new friends.
2. You may find people with similar book interests and maybe even buddy read with them.
3. This is a perfect place to share whatever you feel like, about yourself and perfect opportunity for those who like to share about their interest and preferences even when those are not pertaining books.
4. Lastly, since this is an online book club we can only connect through goodreads more precisely this group and so to make it more fun and give it a personal touch I believe introducing ourselves and making new friends this way is the best solution.

So, I hope you all agree with me and will participate in this conversation and get to know more about each other. Go through the the following order to elaborate about yourself:-
Note: Since your name is visible when you comment there is no need to mention it again. You may if you go by some different name and would like for us to know.
1. Two most preferred genres
2. Favourite books you have read so far (at least two)
And it's a request that you please provide the link for the books you mention.
3. Your favourite quote and the book from which it is (again please provide the link to the book.)
4. Your favourite authors.
5. Five words that you'll use to describe yourself
6. Your most valued character traits you would like to find in the person who wants to be your friend or vice versa.
7. One colour that you think will represent you accurately. You may also define the colour as how it is describing you.
8. Any other thing you like to share about yourself such as your interest in music /art/movies/culture/food et cetera. You can also add any kind of information you would like to share about yourself but just make sure it's not political or regional.

Ok so this is the outline you have to follow just to ensure this topic remains clutter free.
I will start by introducing myself and you may refer it as an example too. My introduction is in the next comment.

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 575 comments 1. Fantasy and Essays (philosophy mostly) - this was a close tie with sci-fi btw
2. The Dark Tower Series Collection: The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, The Waste Lands, Wizard and Glass, Wolves of the Calla, Song of Susannah, The Dark Tower,
The Lord of the Rings,
Neuroethics: Challenges for the 21st Century,
Binti: The Complete Trilogy,
The Power of Myth
3. "The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed." The Gunslinger also known under "best incipit ever"
4. Stephen King, Friedrich Nietzsche, Octavia E. Butler, Nnedi Okorafor, Bill Hicks, Giordano Bruno, J.R.R. Tolkien, David Eddings and I bunch I loved before knowing they were horrible persons, shattering my heart.
5. Creative, Curious, Honest, Fair, Bookworm
6. Loyalty and Honesty mostly. I can pretty much deal with anything else, but trust has a top spot in my book.
7. Green. It stands for balance, nature, growth. I used to dye my hair alpine green and I swear to you it suited me way better than my own color.
8. I'm also a quad skater and a roller derby player. I listen mostly to rock and its ramifications but sometimes I like to foray into strange lands like jazz or bossanova. I'm a movie geek and I sorely miss going to museums as of now. I cried in front of Michelangelo's David. I'm a very bad dancer despite years of martial arts - I should move gracefully, shouldn't I? Nay. But I'm told I'm smooth enough on skates, at least.
My dreams include a library worth of the Beast's one and a halfpipe ramp in my backyard. I have a bucket list for "Things I'm gonna do when my back fully heal" (the same back I f... up working in very unsafe conditions. Learn from me kids, and never settle for less than you real worth. And safety.)
I'd love to know more about you as well ^^

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 575 comments @Rushali oh my, thanks ❤️ you are the kindest soul.

I forgot to mention the 5 character points are in fact my signature strenghts as pointed by the Via survey - you can easily google it, since I'm studying psychology as of now (just out of curiosity, not majoring in it). It's a pretty cool concept to maximize your well being by doing stuff you are already naturally strong at. I'm also quite obsessed with the system of Enneagram and all pertaining knowing thy self and delve deep into what makes you what you are. It's just fascinating.
If you wanted the bad ones, I have an endless list of them (starting with Lazy as Hell) *smirks*

You all have super cool intro!

Booktastically Amazing (booktasticallyamazing) | 130 comments 1. Everything and anything that makes me cry, sob, squeal, die (gently), curse, have a slight mental breakdown, and basically ruin my chances to develop as a normal human being. AKA, YA fantasy and thrillers--romance--mystery. There, two genres.

2. Oh my gosh, you really want to end me, don't you?
~Five minutes later~
Ugh, fine. *mumbling* Silverlegs and Fairest

3. Great, another choose 'favorite'. *tears sprouting* Okay, I just need a sec...

“I would love to slap you right now, but I’m currently wielding a nine pound ball, and I’m afraid that would be called murder.
Sara Wolf, quote from Lovely Vicious

4. This, I can answer, without it causing me mental turmoil.
🌟 Cookie O'Gorman
🌟 Marissa Meyer
🌟 Stacey Lee
For now... And I can't seem to remember the plethora of others...

5. Insanely sarcastic, forever swoon obsessed, eternally hungry, and extremely *searching for a better word* well, crazy. The good crazy.

6. I would love to have a friend that is willing to fangirl to the depths of Crazyville, who is not afraid to be painfully honest (without being rude), and who would be at least closely as book obsessed as I am. Also, that they're able to swoon with me. That's for sure, a must.

7. Black and red. Because, you know, blood and darkness. Wonderful comparison. *snort* But really, those colors represent strength and power in my eyes.

8. I would say that um... I still watch cartoons (although some might say I am too old. And no, I am not), adore cuddling with teddy bears, and have an unfathomably love for oldies music or just epic music. *Ahem* As the Skies Cascade. *sigh* Beautiful. Oh, did I fail to mention, DONUTS?

P.S: And yes, I would adore to be friends. Books. Bookish friends. Yay!

P.S.S: Also, no, I have never used the word 'yay'. It's quite weird. Please ignore said word.

message 9: by Araia (last edited Dec 21, 2020 02:17PM) (new)

Araia (araialim) | 22 comments 1. romance - as much as some tropes annoy me, I can't help swooning over some of them
dystopian/utopian - I can't decide between the two, as different as they are, I enjoy reading both genre immensely.

2. Arc of Scythe series by Neal Shusterman

3. "Loving and trusting someone doesn't mean you have no secrets, it means that you trust them to ensure that their secrets never come back to hurt you" -so srry but idk where that's from. ik ugh!! but I rly want to know too! It is such a ... powerful quote for me to ponder abt all the time <3

4. tbh, I don't rly have a favorite author yet - I have rly high expectations in things I enjoy so none has yet to fully impress me in all aspects. (yes, ik that's harsh but yk, I expect the best)

5. Lost, ambivert, competitive, high standards, ambitious

6. The ability to trust someone completely. Preferably we have similar interests/tastes/personalities.

7. Idk so I took a quiz and got Black: It seems like your personality favors the dark and gloomy, because the color that matches it is black. You're a complicated person who can be on the moody side quite often. You're not the cheeriest person in the building, nor do you pretend to be anything but what you are. On the bright side (in all your darkness), you are quite the sophisticate.
I took another one and got Blue: You have a BLUE (analyzer/organizer) personality. You like to collaborate with others and you avoid conflict. People trust you to get jobs done, and will often give you responsibility. You like to be accepted in social and professional circles. You listen to your emotions and are good at observing situations and creating solutions. You can be inclined to get too caught up with detail and be unwilling to improvise. However, in the right situation you can be a very valuable team member.

8. I know/have been doing jiu jitsu as a form of self defense for 5 years of my life. I just started playing volleyball, and after quarantine, I would be playing clubs :) I have traveled to a few places and my favorite city is Tokyo, Japan. One of these upcoming summers, I'm hoping to stay there for a few months. I would love to travel to Europe (I've never been there yet) and visit Korea again.

Woah we're already friends but I didn't realize how much we have in common!

- Arc of a Scythe is also one of my favorite series of all time
- I played club volleyball
- I want to go to Korea (was supposed to go this summer but Covid hit)

Laura (lauralikeslit7) 1. Fantasy and Romance (Sci-Fi and Thrillers are close seconds)

2. Favorite Books: Crooked Kingdom, Skyward, Arc of a Scythe, The Saga Comics

3. Don't have one favorite author but I love lots of R.F. Kuang's quotes on war from The Poppy War Trilogy

4. Favourite authors: R.F. Kuang, Brandon Sanderson, V.E. Schwab, Leigh Bardugo

5. Five words that you'll use to describe yourself: extroverted, energetic, talkative, leading, and sarcastic

6. Most valued character traits: Sense of humor and loyalty

7. Yellow since I'm pretty happy and loud I guess lol

8. I live on the West Coast in the US and I'm Vietnamese. I don't speak it since my mom primarily spoke English to me as a child and my dad worked most of the time, but I still really love my culture and appreciate it!

I love Kpop and baking. I used to play basketball and volleyball.

I'm in a business program called DECA studying marketing and I'm in a medical club. I don't have any clear career or college major ideas but I'm leaning towards law (criminal justice) or pre-med (dermatologist or dermatology/family nurse practitioner) in the future for my career. If the pay was higher, I wouldn't mind being an English teacher since I love reading, analyzing, and am decent at writing essays lol.

Also it would be my first time doing clubs, I'm excited and a bit scared.

Hmm probably book 1 because it was the first book I bought on a whim one day and got me back into reading during quarantine. My one complaint was the romance since it just distracted from the story, but it didn't bother me a lot.
But technically, I think book 2 is the best since the Thunderhead focus and monologues added lots of depth and plot intrigue.

Aw thanks, I'm really excited to go once Corona dies down though! Plus I'll get to go to Vietnam for the first time too since my parents are from there.

I totally get it lol, club was super intimidating for me but luckily most of the girls at my school went to the same club so I wasn't alone. My tip is to introduce yourself to the coaches and shake hands, and say that you're excited to be trying out! I didn't do this but I know the kids who did or just the kids with connections were favored. Plus don't be afraid to put yourself out there and literally just scream. as loud as you can.. I'm not kidding- if you call the ball super loudly and cheer your teammates on to the point where you look insane, people will notice you! Even when I sucked on my 7th grade team, the coaches noticed and liked me for being energetic and positive so they were nicer and gave me more chances to play. Good luck!

Also a lot of you have mentioned your favourite books and authors and I am fans of theirs too.

message 21: by Lacey (new)

Lacey | 15 comments Before I begin, if there is a way to add links using the ŷ app, I have no idea how to do them so the books here won’t be linked.
1. I’ll read most fiction with a sprinkling of non-fiction if it captures my interest, but my go to genres are almost almost anything Ya or Fantasy.
2. Hm... This is a tricky question, but some of my favourites are Harry Potter (not wishing to support the author right now though), the Percy Jackson series, The Fault in Our Stars, Six of Crows series, Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and the City of Spires series by Claudie Arseneault.
3 I’m hopeless at remembering quotes to like, I’d have to search for one.
4 Rick Riordan, John Green although I’ve only read 2 of his books, Leigh Bardugo, Rainbow Rowell and Holly Bourne. I want to read more from some of my other liked authors to find out if they’d be my favourites and make it to this list.
5. Honest, open minded, shy.
6. Don’t be a troll or completely closed minded and we’ll get along. Basically, don’t attack me and I won’t attack you. It also works if there’s at least one book in common but if I was sent a friend request and your profile looked genuine then I’d probably accept you.
7. This is also tricky, mainly because I’m blind lol, so I’ll pick grey because I’m liking morally grey characters right now. Some years back I probably would’ve picked pink just because I liked the word as well as the artist, or black because I used to wear quite a lot of stuff in that colour.
8. I’m not sure if I have a favourite genre of music anymore but my taste ranges from pop to Drum and Bass to a little bit of Hardcore. I’m the sort of music listener who likes a song or 2 from any given style without a rational sounding reason beyond just liking how it sounds. I also play the flute but not as much anymore. I’m a Pisces which describes me fairly accurately. I’m also British and do like tea but don’t drink it that often but do love a roast dinner. It’s good to meet you all :)

2. the cruel prince (sorry i’m using the app so I can’t link the books)
3. “if I cannot be better than them I will be so much worse - the cruel prince
4. I don’t really have favourites.
5. chaotic, extroverted, bookworm, hyper, lazy
6. likes to laugh, is fine with feminism and lgbtq, doesn’t care about swear words, is here for the memes, is outspoken, is welcome for a good debate
7. green. I can be bright or dark and I change a lot depending on who i’m with, I also can be calm and pastel or hyper or neon. lastly I don’t tend to show emotions (green doesn’t stand for a particular emotion ie red is anger etc)
8. I make a lot of dirty jokes in bad situations and I love hamilton, halsey, taylor swift, gravity falls and mean girls the musical. I hate throne of glass, twilight and six of crows. i’m currently reading from blood and ash and so far it’s looking like i’ll hate that too.

6. Someone who is "crazy" but not Emily you're such a crackhead crazy, would want to talk to me and would remember and care about my birthday :)
7. Orange, its bold and bright but not a lot of people like it
8. I probably make really dark and bad jokes like "let them suffer" but i don't actually mean it and I love dogs. (also did you notice the trend of the demon king series... I've kinda been obsessed for over a year. actually funny story about that my friend has a super over protective christian mom who would not let her read that book even if she wanted to so we put a sticky note over the cover and put "The Bible King" instead. Idk if that's funny to anyone else lol).

I prefer children's books (no suprises) and YA as age groups. I enjoy fantasy stories and coming of age stories the most. But I can really enjoy some adult literature as well, but I have a hard time finding stories that really hit me there.

My absolute favorite series is the Tilly and the bookwanderers series by Anna James! The first one: Tilly and the Bookwanderers I also love the Ruby Red trilogy by Kerstin Gier. The first one: Ruby Red That is the series that got me back into reading after college so it will always have a special place in my heart. I plan on rereading them early this year!

I'm not that big of a quote fan, but some parts of The Little Prince really resonated with me. Like: “Grown-ups love figures... When you tell them you've made a new friend they never ask you any questions about essential matters. They never say to you "What does his voice sound like? What games does he love best? Does he collect butterflies? " Instead they demand "How old is he? How much does he weigh? How much money does his father make? " Only from these figures do they think they have learned anything about him.

I have a lot of favorite authors for different genres. But I have always loved the work of Darren Shan, so that is a must-mention. I also love anything Dani Atkins wrote, that is another autobuy author for me!

Me in 5 words: enthusiastic, caring, motivated, down-to-earth, nerdy

My most valued character traits: humor, honesty, compasion

The colour that represents my: I think dark green. it feels safe, soft, close to nature and it can contain some things not showing from the surface to anyone who takes a peek.

BTW I love this sort of questions!

I have discovered reading again 5 years ago. I just to read a lot as a child. I wanted to take more books home from the library then allowed, so we had to go twice a week instead of once haha! But a couple of weeks ago we got a puppy, and it has had a dramatic influence on my reading time. I'm very curious how that will play out over the longer term.

I've joined this group because the moderator mentioned it in a moderator group, and I was looking for a new, fun group to join. I've had a lot of fun in a local group the last couple of years and I've met a lot of lovely people that way, but the group is dying a bit because the lack of motivation of the moderters to keep things vibrant, so I'm looking for some other cozy place. I don't like big groups because I feel as if I'm just shouting in the void, I love some interaction and the feel of getting to know the active members!
