Harry Bacon | 1 comments Hello all! I'm Harry, from Australia ✌️ been getting into goodreads this year as a way to keep track of my neverending hoarding of old books 😂 always interested in recommendations and discussing impactful stories!

Welcome Harry. I joined ŷ for the same reason. I needed a way to catalogue the books on my shelves at home. I am glad you decided to read with us.

Hello, Harry. I began ŷ in ~2018 or 2019. The more you use it, the more fun it becomes. I don't think of us as book "hoarders"; I think of us as book collectors with a home library. Just like Thomas Jefferson!

I started adding my books the day I opened an account. As I am a senior citizen, any attempt to record ALL my reading of a lifetime would be ludicrous. You will meet more people if you make comments in your chosen groups; and try to add a few sentences in the "review" section as it will tell us so much more than * (stars).

Have fun!

Paul Hughes | 5 comments Hi everyone, I’m Paul and I’m from the UK. Happy to have joined here! Looking to find new people to discuss great literature with- seems a very difficult task to find people with a serious interest in classics! Hopefully I’m in the right place! :) Currently reading Proust’s “In Search of Lost Time, Rousseau’s “Confessions, some of Vladimir Nabokov’s “Lectures on Literature, The Book of Exodus and re-reading “The Divine Comedy

Matt Long | 5 comments Hi there, I'm Matt from California. Recently, Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha reminded me of how nice it can be to get lost in a good story. Since then, I have been enjoying my time reading again. I tend to stick to 20th century literature, but it's not a strict rule.

I'm currently reading Tortilla Flat and a nonfiction called 100 Banned Books: Censorship Histories of World Literature. I am also working my way through Leaves of Grass as a longer-term read.

I hope to take part in some of the monthly reads and discussions. Thanks for having me.

Lee (leex1f98a) | 17 comments Hello Paul, and welcome! Dante is a delight and unforgettable. I had been reading PARADISO but have set it aside for now.
I am in the US (Texas) & it does not feel appropriate to read it at this time. I’m so glad you have joined.

I'm probably a lot newer to books and literature than a lot of other people here, only started really about a year and a half ago, but excited to get more into this hobby. Over the past couple years I've sort of been reading randomly, but I'm happy to find people to talk books with.

message 1322: by Rio (new)

Rio (tenbears) | 1 comments Hello everyone! My name is River and I have always been a fan of classic literature, I think reading how these great people thought helps me grow as a person. Ive recently been afflicted with an injury that has led to me having a lot more down time, but reading has been an amazing escape. Ive recently read several books by Bukowski, Hemingway, Steinbeck, and Camus, and am currently working my way through Slouching Towards Bethlehem, which is blowing me away! Im always open to new recommendations.

I've always been a fan of reading, but have only gotten into the classics recently. I'm currently reading Thomas Mann's "The Magic Mountain", it's taking me months but I'm not giving up on it! :)

English is not my main language so please excuse any and all errors. I do try to use a spellchecker before posting!

message 1336: by Thomas (new)

Thomas | 44 comments Hi All!

I just started compiling my Buffet menu and thought I should introduce myself. I got back into reading a couple years ago and want to start reading The Classics to find out what all the fuss is about. I also want to talk books with people and this seems like a fun, active group. You might be seeing me pop into some group/buddy read threads. That Bingo also sounds fun.

Some members have already given me tips, suggestions, etc... Thank you and keep them coming! Right now I'm less concerned about where to start with the Classics and more concerned on just starting them. I have a lot to catch up on, which is exciting.

Thanks for having me and I'm glad to be here!

-T
