sanju (sunny_k1004) | 10 comments Title: The Poet X
Author: Elizabeth Acevedo
Would you recommend this book?
Yes, I read this book in under 2 hours, so it's a pretty short read. And it's a novel in verse!

Katy M | 946 comments Title: Song of Solomon
Author: Toni Morrison
Would you recommend this book? I don't know. It was kind of weird. Probably not.

message 4: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1234 comments Title: She Came to Slay: The Life and Times of Harriet Tubman

Author: Erica Armstrong Dunbar

Would you recommend this book?

Yes, I have a much better understanding of why she is an important figure in fighting for equality. I did not know about her service in the Civil War. The title is so fitting.

Harmke | 435 comments Title: Roots: The Saga of an American Family
Author: Alex Haley
Would you recommend this book? I would recommend it to anyone who likes family saga's and 'slow reads'. It gives a better understanding about the impact of slavery and the universal pursuit of freedom.

Megan | 468 comments Title: The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration
Author: Isabel Wilkerson
Would you recommend this book? Yes! If you're unsure about picking this one up due to the length (it's 600+ pages), don't be. I found myself immediately drawn into the lives of the three individuals who were profiled and enjoyed learning more about the history of the U.S. through their personal experiences.

Would you recommend this book? Absolutely, yes!! I would go as far to say that this is a must-read over American race relations. It gave me all the feels, which is why I rated it 5 STARS! I can't wait to read the follow-up novel Dear Justyce.

Johanna Ellwood (jpellwood) | 236 comments Title: Dear Martin
Author: Nic Stone
Would you recommend this book? Absolutely - but don't read this book when you're already emotional about something else. Passed this along to my teenagers - definitely something everyone should read.

Would you recommend this book? Yes!!! I already read Dear Martin so I chose this for June. You don't have to necessarily read Dear Martin to enjoy the book. It stands on its own
