I expected the illustrator to be British, but no, she grew up in NYC and still lives in the "northeast."
I loved this biography of Jane Austen. The illustrations successfully followed her life and her imagination as well.
The illustrator's note in the back of the book indicated that she was very thoughtful in how she planned out the illustrations: she depicted Jane's childhood and youth in vibrant full color. But when Jane's family moves to Bath, and her father passes away, the illustrator uses a lot of gray tones. When she moves to Chawton Cottage, the illustrator portrays her new maturity in lush greens. She also states that the color palette she used came from textile shades popular in Jane's time.
I thought the entire book a splendid effort.

When Sunday quits, the other six days of the week hold interviews for her replacement. Chock full of insane silliness; wonderful, bright, colorful illustrations. I vote for Caturday.

This beautifully simple book would be wonderful for infants and toddlers. The illustrations remind me of those of Tomie DePaola.
A House by Kevin Henkes

Hurricane by John Rocco
Beautiful illustrations in double-page spreads, single-page spreads, and panels depict how one boy helping his neighbors clean up after a hurricane, gains him their help to rebuild the destroyed river dock.

Red by Laura Vaccaro Seeger
A beautiful companion to Green and Blue, focusing on a red fox.

How to Help a Pumpkin Grow by Ashley Wolff
I have loved Wolff's illustrations for years. In this story, a Border collie and her animal friends tend a pumpkin patch until its ready for harvesting and turning into food and jack-o-lanterns.
