I read The Birds by Tarjei Vesaas. A rowing boat plays an important role.

Decided to remove my double dip of rickshaw boy here instead of in "non-latin language".

Just read Manhattan Transfer to fulfill this one

It's a super short read. I didn't particularly care for it. Not sure why it's on the list.

certainly! love the creativity

James Spencer (jspencer78) | 243 comments Heart of Darkness No creativity here. The whole story is about a journey by steam boat up an African river.

I also read The Bitter Glass by a female author. A train and a boat play an imprtant role here.

The autobiographer in Promise at Dawn is a navigator in the French Air Force during WWII. He and his various planes see some adventure.

message 20: by SaraSian (new)

SaraSian | 76 comments Orlando by Virginia Woolf. Orlando rides horses, ice skates, joins a traveling gypsy party, sails, drives a car and travels through time

Dina Goluza | 326 comments For this task I'll read Closely Watched Trains by Bohumil Hrabal.

Mel | 23 comments The Driver's Seat by Muriel Spark. This book was amazing! One of my favorites that I've read on the list this year. Very short and captivating. 5 stars.

message 23: by Jo (new)

Jo Sé | 6 comments China Mieville - Railsea. Love this book centred around a…well sea of railways with a rather huge nod to Moby Dick in the shape of a giant, mutated, albino mole.

Railsea is not a LIST book. But Moby-Dick certainly is. This challenge is designed to be done with books from Boxall's book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.

Try this link if you need a copy of the list.

Yrinsyde | 287 comments I finished Mrs 'Arris Goes to Paris. It opens on her flying to Pariss. I remember reading this years ago and it is a lovely story. It also very evocative of post-war Britain.

Luke (korrick) | 163 comments A few works that I read this year that would fit is 'Pilgrimage' by Dorothy Richardson (all 2200+ pages of it!), 'The Radetzky March' by Joseph Roth, and 'Quo Vadis' (Whither goest thou?) by Henryk Sienkiewicz.
