Richard Gombert (rgombert) I'm not following any particular order for completing this list. I'm just reading and then seeing if what I've read fits a category. I have scoped out a couple of books for specific categories (A book written (published) the year you were born). I thought I'd recap what I've completed so far (I'm using a Google Sheet to track these).

I've read four of of the Original list and one off of my additional 10.

The original Challenge:
A bok of short stories: "In the Company of Sherlock Holmes: Stories Inspired by the Holmes Canon" Laurie R. King & Leslie S. Klinger 3.00 10-Jan-2015
A nonfiction book: "Space Shuttle" Reichhardt, Tony 4.00 25-Jan-2015
A book you can finish in a day: :Earth as Art: Friedl, Lawrence 4.00 30-Jan-2015
A graphic novel: "T-Minus: The Race to the Moon" Jim Ottaviani 4.00 16-Jan-2015

My additions:
An audio book: "Second Nature" Pollan, Michael 3.00 9-Jan-2015

Anyone know an author whose initials are RG (or RWG)?

I read mostly in order for the moment, but started some books before the challenge, so I had some light weeks and could read more books :)
I'm reading a graphic novel every weekend for the moment and I've side-reads running all along when I'm interested in a story I want to start quickly.

The original Challenge:
A book with more than 500 pages: A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin.
A romance: Persuasion by Jane Austen (classic) + Playing for Keeps by R.L. Mathewson (modern).
A book that became a movie: The Maze Runner by James Dashner.
A book published this year: Lock In by John Scalzi (2014) + Hollow World by Michael J. Sullivan (2014) + The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (2015).
+
A book based on OR turned into a tv show: How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell.

Side-reads
Graphic novels:
Wayward, Vol. 1: String Theory
Chew, Vol. 9: Chicken Tenders
The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 1: The Faust Act
Princeless, Book One: Save Yourself
Le Grand Méchant Renard

Books:
Before the Dawn
Passeurs d'ombre, l'intégrale de la saison 1 (Numerik séries)

Rebeccah Giltrow (rebeccah_giltrow) | 76 comments My initials are RG too. I did struggle to find an author (other than myself!) but I'm going for Rumer Godden. I can't remember why I chose that author - she must have written some books that piqued my interest.

message 4: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (poeticgraffiti) I also haven't been doing the challenges in any particular order. I've just been reading the books I've felt like reading and counting toward whatever category they'd be applicable for. I finished six books in January, a little bit ahead of my goal of one book per week.

The Original Challenge:

A Book Set In A Different Country: Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino
A Book With Magic: Abhorsen by Garth Nix
A Book of Short Stories: No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July
A Play: Macbeth by William Shakespeare
A Book Set Somewhere You've Always Wanted to Visit: The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
A Book With a Number in the Title: Two Serious Ladies by Jane Bowles

Emily Richard wrote: "Anyone know an author whose initials are RG (or RWG)? "

Here are a few R.G. authors that I was able to find.

The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling)
An Untamed State or Bad Feminist: Essays by Roxane Gay
Under the Bridge: The True Story of the Murder of Reena Virk by Rebecca Godfrey
The Distance Between Us by Reyna Grande
Listen by Rene Gutteridge

message 6: by Adriana (last edited Feb 03, 2015 07:35AM) (new)

Adriana Pereira (adrianacecilia) I was terrible with this challenge this month thanks to my exams.

The Original Challenge
A book with more than 500 pages (week 1): Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
A book with nonhuman characters (week 7): Animal Farm by George Orwell

Side reads
Short stories
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Shot and The Queen of Spades by Alexander Pushkin
A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner
Study books
About 5/6 (most +500 pages) regarding Administrative Law, European Community Law, Labour Law, General Theory of Civil Law and Family Law.
They take so much of my time that I decided to counted them too. I might put one of those for the non-fiction week! Ahahaha

I am a little behind the challenge now, having had a busy couple of weeks. I'm still reading my book published in 2014. I've been mostly keeping to the order of the challenge. If my side reads do count for a task, I am including them in the task but I plan to read another book during the actual week of the task if time allows for it. This gives me a little breathing room if one week is more challenging (time wise) than another.

Completed Reads
A Book with More Than 500 Pages (Week 1) - The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
A Romance (Week 2) - The Princess Bride by William Goldman
A Book That Became a Movie (Week 3) - Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed (which I still need to write a review for)

Current Read:
A Book Published This Year (Week 4) - The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton

On Deck:
A Book with a Number in the Title (Week 5) - Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Side Reads:
A Book Set in High School (Week 38) - The Tyrant's Daughter by J.C. Carleson
A Book with a Female Author (Week 9) - The Help by Kathryn Stockett

message 8: by Cait (new)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments I'm pretty on top of the challenge. I've been a bit slow with my current book because I had a busy weekend without much time to read.

Challenge reads:
Emma by Jane Austen (Week 1 - more than 500 pages)
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (Week 2 - classic romance)
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (Week 3 - made into a film)
Miramont's Ghost by Elizabeth Hall (Week 4 - published this year)
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne (Week 5 - number in the title)

Side reads:
The Case of the Gilded Fly by Edmund Crispin (first in a series of books my husband has been reading)
The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel (from my hardbacks bookshelf)
Quidditch Through the Ages by J.K. Rowling (from my children's bookshelf, I've recently finished rereading all the Harry Potter books)
Strata by Terry Pratchett (the last in my collection of Terry Pratchett books)

I'm trying to average two books a week, I'm a little bit behind but I've got some fairly short children's books on my bookcase so that'll catch me up.

message 9: by Katie (new)

Katie (ktmac_1) I have been trying to go in order; it keeps me on task and gives me deadlines. Otherwise, I would be chasing rabbits all over the place and procrastinating 'til the end of time. :)
I do have to go back at some point though and read a book over 500 pages.
Side Reads:
Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern which was very frustrating

message 10: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments I'm behind too, I had a fairly awful January with personal & health stuff (including a week in hospital after emergency surgery - most of the time too tired to read!). But, I've just finished my third book so it shouldn't be too long before I'm back on track.

I'm also not strictly reading in week order - I'm making a spreadsheet of possibilities for each week, and just reading what I feel like. I read "Moby-Dick" for my Week One book, and I couldn't quite face another weighty classic so skipped the classic romance for now. I don't really want to be too locked in & feel like I have to read something - I still want a bit of freedom.

I like your book picks, Michelle :) The Book Thief is a favorite of mine. Fascinating perspective, plot, characters. I just loved it.
