Try the medieval fiction of Susanna Gregory.

Eileen Iciek | 553 comments I loved In a Dark Wood Wandering: A Novel of the Middle Ages, but it's not for everyone.

There's also Steven Pressfield's Gates of Fire. A little romance, but an amazing novel.

Geraldine Brooks has done a few novels that take place in ancient and medieval times. There's Year Of Wonders and People of the Book. She's an excellent writer.

Edward Rutherfurd's books are pretty epic, but cover many centuries, kind of like James Michener novels.

Anita (nitteke) | 9 comments Hi Sebastien, it rather depends on what you are looking for. If you prefer to read in french I can recommend Jean d'Aillon. If you like detective stories you can explore several authors by reading a book of The Medieval Mystery Murders : each book is a collection of short stories evolving around one theme -or one object- throughout the (middle) ages. See: /author/show...
I see you already know of Bernard Cornwell and Conn Iggulden, my absolute favorite is Sharon Kay Penman. Good luck :)
