I've got the same problem Lisa. Ha!
I'm not sure how I'm going to fit it all in but I'm giving it a try. I like both group reads this month!

Frances Carden | 56 comments Not sure I'll like this one, but I'll give it a try. I ordered the paperback and am waiting for it to come in.

Same here, they both sound great, so I’ll squeeze em in!

freddie (oliverbanks) i loved the magnus archives, written by the same guy, and this looks so good! can’t wait to read it >:-)

Elysa (ebees) | 35 comments Starting today! Pretty stoked for this one, the description is very intriguing.

message 18: by J.M. (new) - rated it 3 stars

J.M. Horn | 2 comments Looking forward to this one.

Michelle | 307 comments I finished the 1st chapter with Violet Ng. I loved the atmosphere of anxiety and claustrophobia. Excellent writing. I'm eager for the second.

Laurie | 5 comments Started the audiobook yesterday!

freddie (oliverbanks) i finished violet’s chapter - it was a little slow but i could really feel how claustrophobic her life was and how much more it became because of banyan court

Elysa (ebees) | 35 comments So, I don't know about you all, but I can be careless and miss pretty important details... like I hadn't realized this is a short story collectionn! I guess I missed that part in the title, the genre list, and the reviews. Could happen to anyone really 😅

Anyway, I've read the first 6 stories so far and they are pretty good and quick. The 2nd and 4th guests are my favorites as of now!

terrence ritchey (wiseraven2000) | 26 comments This looks like it has great possibiitys cant wait to start it thanks for the oppertoonity to join

Trustno1 (carosabotage) | 58 comments Read Violet´s chapter so far and tbh I´m not really loving it so far, but there are 12 more to go so let´s see how this will go

Michelle | 307 comments I finished the second and third stories-Jesus and Carter--and I enjoyed both.
The obsession in the 2nd was well written and has me wondering exactly what force is affecting everyone. The 3rd felt like a new take on the Ghost in the Machine trope.
I like the little threads of connection between the storylines. (view spoiler)
I'm looking forward to what's to come.

message 26: by Lisa (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lisa | 618 comments I just finished the 4th, Anna's story, called Bad Penny. Oo, that one was creepy. I agree that the first one was the least engaging, but the subsequent ones did seem to pick up. I'm enjoying this, and wondering how they will all tie together.

Nayeli (nayeli_cardozo) | 10 comments Just started it today! I'm excited because the synopsis was cool. Also pretty thrilled by the format of the book with every chapter being a different POV. It should be interesting.

terrence ritchey (wiseraven2000) | 26 comments I love the format I love everything about this book I won't say much more cuz they don't want to spoil but it's really well written and I like the format it's unusual

Elysa (ebees) | 35 comments Finished it last night! I agree that the first one is the least engaging, but they definitely pick up.

I advise you to pay a little extra attention when the characters describe each other; it'll help you keep track later. :)

Ginger | 3874 comments Glad to see everyone is liking this one so far! I'll be starting on it next week and excited to see what all the spoilers are about. :D

Same here! I have a couple to finish up first.

Milind Tapodhan | 2 comments Starting from today . Enjoying the thrilling ride with the Group !

Laurie | 5 comments Finished the audiobook today. Some of the stories were pretty creepy, and I loved hearing Jonathan Sims voice...I miss the Magnus Archives so much! The stories reminded me of the podcast a lot, which was a big plus for me. Now on to Fantasticland!

message 35: by Michelle (last edited Jun 06, 2021 02:07PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Michelle | 307 comments I finished stories 5, 6, and 7. I already can't remember 5, but I really liked number 6. I thought it was enlightening. 7 raised more questions than answers. The best part is seeing the residents through each other's eyes.

freddie (oliverbanks) “a stubborn stain was so disgusting, oh my god. i felt like i was going to be sick. good job jonny

JasonA (jasonaa) This started out a little slow, but once you started getting more interconnectedness in the stories, it really took off for me. Overall, I was pretty happy with this one.

Frances Carden | 56 comments just started last night, and actually I'm really into it

message 39: by Zain (new) - rated it 3 stars

Zain | 339 comments Okay…I’ve purchased my copy of Thirteen Storeys. I have never heard of this book, but I am definitely game to try it. After all, it’s horror isn’t it? 👍🏽

Monica Go | 868 comments I got the ebook. I'm kinda stuck on a couple of books maybe a collection is a good idea.

Trustno1 (carosabotage) | 58 comments I really loved #2, where Violet's story was really hard for me to push through, this was such a joy to read

Elysa (ebees) | 35 comments Yeah, reading through this thread and thinking it may not have been a great idea to have her story as the introduction into the book. Not sure what the author could have done differently though.

message 43: by Haddie (new) - added it

Haddie Warren (haddiesloan) | 4 comments I love this author’s podcast The Magnus Archives! I highly recommend it for horror fans. I didn’t now about this book, I’m super excited.

I guess if you start with Violet, everything is uphill after that.

Did anyone else think Diego and Damien were the same person? About three quarters of the way thru, I thought the author changed the character's name and just forgot to go back and edit it.

I'm glad to to hear this! I just finished the first chapter and I was a little worried that the rest of the book might drag on.

I did! In Leon's story, his wife was misnamed a couple of times, so I thought the same had been done with Diego and Damien. The search bar in the Kindle app was definitely my friend with this book, haha!

I swear my memory is not helping me! They keep naming names that I think I've heard in the other stories but can't quite recall who that person is. So I have to go all the way back and search for them.
For some strange reason, I keep forgetting who this David reporter guy is. And as I get closer to the end he just keeps popping up in the stories.

message 48: by Lisa (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lisa | 618 comments I'm also getting people confused as they start to pop up in other stories. I wish there was a cast of characters glossary at the start of the book!

It definately gets better. I´m at the 7th story now and while I didn´t care that much for #6 all the others were interesting and different enough to keep me engaged.

Michelle | 307 comments I am on the 12th story, Damian's. I've been highlighting all the parts where one resident speaks about another in my kindle. That way I can go back if I want to check a description or need a refresher.
Loving the book!
