I read some of this book whilst out today and sunbathing and am sad to say that I won't be continuing on with it, I'm sorry. I didn't really enjoy the fast-pace and it seems like it is going to feature a super romantic focus, which isn't really to my tastes.

Up to ch7. Fairytale like. I agree, Dannii, it is fast paced. The opening with the wedding party incident is unusual, but it forces our character to reassess what she believes.

Second quarter. This immerses the reader in a fairytale world, but keeps certain key pieces of information from us. We are in a similar position to Evangeline as she tries to workout what Jacks is aiming to do.

I suppose it is good to find such a fast-paced fantasy. Most are slower to begin, when they are introducing a new world or magic system. This just didn't really appeal to me right now. Maybe I'll return to it later, though. I hope you enjoy :)

I loved Caraval, and perhaps having some crossover helps. It is a quick read, but how memorable it is will depend on how it pans out.

Up to ch42. I am liking the way there’s two seemingly distinct quests here. Jacksβ€� motivation is hard to work out, but I’m convinced the stepsister knows more about events than she’s told anyone.

Finished. Definitely another Garber cliffhanger ending...but set up very nicely for whatever is to come.

By the way, I haven't read Caraval yet - this is a separate series right? Or do you recommend reading Caraval first?

It does reference a few things from Caraval as it takes place after that series. So it will spoil the ending somewhat if you were wanting to read that series. But i think you would understand this series fine without having read it

A part of me still hopes that Apollo isn’t actually dead, but I’m curious as to who perpetrated it. Could it have been his brother, or was it another fate?

It’d be nice if Tella and Scarlet make an appearance once in a while.. I miss them :/

HAHAHAHA OF COURSE HE TURNED THEM TO STONE, Jacks is even more savage in this one than in the last books πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Also, if he makes her kiss 3 random people, wouldn’t he just made her kiss them in front of Luc? He thriiiives on broken hearts so yeahπŸ˜‚ Since she isn’t mentioning her parents names (besides her father’s, but maybe he changed his name), I still feel like it’s Tella and Legend, but if that’s true than that means that Legend is dead too :(( Tella probably died because she didn’t want to give up her daughters secret idk?? I hope I’m right because that would be so cool. I don’t know how old Evangeline is, but she does live in the capital. Since her hair is rosegold, she definitely has some sort of magic. Can’t freaking wait.

I keep wondering who the painted characters on the inside are though, the first too are obviously Jacks and Evangeline, but I wonder who the rest are; is the one with the golden crown Julian??? Chapter 13
(view spoiler)[Aaaaaaah so the wanted posters shop was her father’s!!! So cool. I wonder what the shop is that she doesn’t know about. I love the cross-overs so far. I definitely see some overdramatic aspects of Tella in her, and I’m hoping she doesn’t turn out the same way because I don’t want to hate her πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ aaaah an inventation from Scarlett!!!! Love it. Oh my so either that prince is from the Ballad of the Archer and the Fox, where he has to kill his love (since no one can remember the ending, and no one can remember him either) or he’s a fate! Im guessing she’s going to be the Fox in the story lol, since her last name is Fox. I’m hoping he isn’t Jacks lmao, but she’ll definitely see him. Didn’t Luc travel north too? Luc seemed like a jerk though. Nocte Neverending sounds cool, can’t wait to learn more about the magic of that place and see more of the Caraval world.

By the way, before I read this and the caraval series, I thought Evangeline would turn out to be Jacks true love, and I kind of still do. I know it was implied that it was Tella, but in the last book (Finale) it was implied that it might’ve not been her, so I’m guessing it’s Evangeline. I definitely would like that a lot more. Wait holy crap maybe THEY are the Fox and the Archer!! Oh my yes. Why do I have so many thoughts and comments while reading these booksπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

The North already sounds so great. And they have dragons!! My oh my. Aaaah I’m slowly putting the portraits in my edition of the book together with the names, the one with the golden crown is Apollo then, the other guy might be Tiberias, not sure. The ones in the back are the knight and the girl with the dragonscales dress, and Marisol I think, but I’m not sure who the guy with Marisol is, maybe Luc? I do think Evangeline is his real true love though, since they met at approximately the same time as he met Tella? Maybe he just confused them, and Evangeline was the real one who made his heart beat?

I keep feeling like Evangeline will be able to shift into a Fox, not sure why. Probably because of the story I think she’s part of? Lol someone mentioned her hiar was just like that princess’s? Well I’m guessing her mother was a princess thenπŸ™„ It's really YA if that’s true lol. Oh and I love that Jacks his hair is now blue hehe.

Omg wait, he’s making 3 people fall in love with her so she’ll break their hearts isn’t he. The scene with Apollo was hot though damn. I actually don’t trust Marisol, she seems kinda shady. I like LaLa, I thought she said she didn’t have a chance with the prince though, so I thought she didn’t like him like that, but then she did throw longing glances his way? Confusing. Aaaah Evangeline’s parents were definitely Valors; her father sounds like the one who could infuse magic in objects and places, although he also might’ve just been collecting those items. And since she only mentioned one name, their daughter Vesper, I’m guessing that’s her mother, who ran away from the North so she wouldn't get killed. I do still feel like Evangeline will be able to shift forms, which means she must be family of the second eldest son, but I’m staying with my Vesper theory for now. The prophecy was cool, although I didn’t really understand why the stones thing triggered it. I wonder what the Valory Arch is. I do feel like she’s already half peasant and half princess, since her mother was a princess but her father a peasant? Or so I think.
