NOTE: This topic may already exist somewhere on the site. If so, I wasn't able to find it.

This topic is about 1001 list books that are part of a larger series. More specifically either:

Books from series that are not entirely included within the list and list book is not first of the series
Book from a series fully included in the list, but may be read in a different order

***So, if you have read any of the following, let us know if it is necessary for the reader to:
Read the non-list books to fully understand the story from the list book
Read the series in the order given or not

Ugh. Sorry the above posted before I was finished.

James Spencer (jspencer78) | 246 comments A couple of pedantic comments::

The seven parts of In Search of Lost Time are all parts of a single very long novel and IMHO should not be considered part of “series. As such they definitely need to be read in order.

Also there is what I think is a typo for Farrell’s Empire Trilogy. Singapore Grip is the third in the trilogy not the 4th. Can be read in whatever order you like but chronologically they are in the “correct order here.

Sorry, accidentally hit post before I could edit.

James Spencer (jspencer78) | 246 comments One more comment: not listed is Kristin Lavransdatter but I think it should be: it was published as three separate books The Wreath, The Wife and The Cross. It is of course listed in Boxall as a single work and is readily available as such from Penguin in English.

I'm nearly halfway through the Empire Trilogy at the moment, having read Troubles first and am a third through The Siege of Krishnapur. I agree with James that these can be read in any order.

Only #2, Winter is on the LIST.
The others being, of course, Autumn, Spring, and Summer.

My research has indicated that it can be read alone.

Only #6, The Dispossessed, is on the LIST.
