Hey all, I'm Suzanne, Team 2's captain. Sorry for being so slow posting anything, but today would be the day my body decides to rebel and come down with a cold or something. I just got up from a long nap and am still trying to wake up, and my thinking is even slower and fuzzier than usual. I'm trying to work with Lanelle to figure out what I'm supposed to be doing. Please be patient with me. grumbles angrily at uncooperative body and mind

Details:
* Sign-up begin now.
*Teams will be posted July 9, 2021.
*There are 13 'Weeks' to the game.
*The game begins on Wednesday, July 14 at 12:01 a.m. (Pacific Daylight Time)
*The game concludes Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 12:59 p.m. (Pacific Daylight Time)
*If your profile is set to private, you will need to open it for the duration of the game. You may need to be contacted by the head of your team

HOW TO PLAY
* Each team member must read one book each week.
* All four tasks must be completed from each week's list.
* You may not start reading your book before Wednesday morning and
you must finish reading your book by Tuesday night (midnight).
* Each week's tasks will be posted Monday mornings.
* The fifth member of each team can choose to read a book for any task they'd like.

Rules:
* Re-reads are allowed.
* Graphic novels are allowed, but they must be 250+ pages.
* No cookbooks or poetry books.
* Books must be at least 140 pages. Audio book page length is determined by the first paper version.
* For cover items, the item must be obvious and distinct.
* For cover color, the color must be at least 50% (check with tineye)
* For location, the MC must be in the country or city at least 50% of the time.

Points
Each task will receive 5 points, which means teams can earn 20 points each week. Also, I will randomly select 1 task to receive an extra 5 points. If the fifth member (or DDBR) reads for that task, the team will earn 25 points for that week.

The team with the most points at the end of the race wins.

DDBR and Missing Players:
If a team has fewer assigned members than five at the beginning of the game, one member may read an extra book to make up the difference. That member is the Designated Double Book Reader (DDBR). The DDBR may change from week to week.

If a team member has an emergency or has scheduled an absence, a DDBR can read 2 books that week so that the team will not lose points. There is no consequence for this absence.

A team member can have one unplanned absence without repercussions. When they miss a second week, they will eliminated from the team. A DDBR will NOT be used in this circumstance. A replacement will hopefully be found.

Transportation: read a book where the MC flies on an airplane
Mission: find the next clue on a path called the Knife's Edge - read a book where the MC uses a weapon
Roadblock: cook an ostrich egg (eggs are incubated by the females by day and by the males by night) - read a book where the MC hatches (comes up with) a plan

Thanks, Lanelle, feeling a little better tonight but still like crap. Probably going to have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Yeah, that's about the way it seems to go for me: Nothing much going on? Feeling just fine. Something special happening? Ok, time to get sick. bleah This, whatever it is, will probably be over in a day or two.

Suzanne is still feeling horrible, so I'll manage things until she can take over.

Hi. I'm Jane and I'm from Denmark.

I of course read a lot, mostly fantasy and romance. I'm also taking part in a lot of challenges both individual and team so really trying to get my books to fit a lot of places.

Apart from reading I enjoy geocaching and canoing.

I'm sure I've got #3 covered and most likely that would include #4 but that's difficult to know before reading the books.

I'm glad you made it to Team 2, Jane, no matter the detour you took :)

I'll put your name down by #3 and #4.

I'm sure I can find something for New York. It says state, but NYC would count, right? Just making sure.

To avoid confusion and stress, I'm changing a rule.

All times refer to your local time.

Suzanne, I hope you’re feeling better.

Hey all, I'm still here, but still feeling pretty bad, though maybe a little better. Thinking process is still very fuzzy (what thinking?), so I'll let Lanelle carry it a day or two more, so long as she's ok with that. I'm still waiting to see a doctor. Hubby and I are both in a covid vaccine trial, so we can't just walk in and see a doctor on our own when we have anything with covid-like symptoms (like having a cold or sinus infection). We have to call and get an appointment with one of their doctors. This hit Friday and hubby called for me, but it was too late in the day, and they didn't call back Monday. Guess one of us will have to call again later today. I'm sure it's not covid because it turns out both injections we got were the real vaccine, so I'm covered there. Still, the trial runs for a few more months (I think), so they'll want to keep tabs on us until it's fully over. I urge everyone who hasn't already had a vaccine to get one. My second shot was in October, and I'm perfectly fine. Well . . . maybe not "perfectly" fine, but then I don't think I ever was. lol

In Denmark we get called for the vaccine depending on age so I got my first shot last month and my second I had today, just a few hours ago.

Cilla is taking care of Location, and Shelly is reading for Transportation. Jane can do either Mission or Roadblock, so either of those tasks is available. Jade hasn't picked yet.

Looking back at Jane's message, she was certain her book would fit Mission and iffy about whether it would fit Roadblock. Maybe you should take Roadblock.

I've picked my book, but I won't be able to get it from the library until tomorrow.

Finally got to the doctor today; turned out to be a sinus infection like I thought it was. I will start antibiotics tomorrow once hubby can pick them up from the pharmacy. Been feeling a little better today, but I'll be glad when the antibiotics kick in and get rid of this thing. I hope everyone else has been feeling well. =)

I'm reading Almost Arizona. The story takes place in the early 1900s when cars haven't yet completely taken over and some remote places are still using stagecoaches. Julia Newman, the MC, is returning home to Arizona after spending two years teaching back East when her stagecoach is held up. The robber shoots the man riding shotgun and takes the local mine's pay trunk, but he doesn't bother the passengers at all which is a bit odd for a stagecoach holdup. The passengers don't see the robber. Julia's brother, Oliver, doesn't show up to pick her up from the last stop. He works at the mine in an office, and he left earlier without telling anyone where he was going. Nobody has seen him since, so Adam Scott, the town's deputy sheriff, thinks Oliver might be the robber or at least have something to do with it. Julia insists her brother would never do anything like that, so she hatches the plan to investigate the robbery herself to find and clear Oliver of all suspicion.

Thanks for all the help, Lanelle! =) I'm hoping to feel well enough tomorrow, or maybe the next, to try to get back to being captain. I still feel as though my head's trying to explode at times, but I think I'm getting better. Thanks for keeping us going.

Thanks, Jade, I think I am feeling a little better, but my head and throat are still giving me some trouble. I'm just glad I have such a loving hubby to take care of me. =)
